Does anyone sympathize/empathize with the killers of Emmett Till?

"In 1955 a black Chicago teenager, Emmett Louis Till, 14, whistled at a Caucasian woman in Money, Miss. Several days later on August 27, 1995 Emmett disappeared. He was eventually located on the bottom of a river wired to a factory fan. He had been beaten and shot in the head."

Does anyone care to sympathize with his killers? Perhaps you may think that you hate it when someone whistles at a lady. Perhaps you may understand where his killers were coming from but this was wrong.

Is this the case for anyone?

Does anyone want to create excuses? Perhaps reason through it?

This is what Emmett looked like after:

Personally I think it's awful and there is no sympathy or empathy on my parts and I don't need to reason it or excuse it.

Considering that the men who were on trial for this crime were acquitted, I'd say there are 12 white men who sympathize and empathize with his killers.

Do you sympathize and/or empathize?

Considering the definitions of those terms, No.

But like I said, 12 people did.

Well, were. Are any of them still alive?

At any rate, I don't think the two examples are even remotely comparable, but I'm not sure why I'm bothering to post this, because y'all knew that already.

And now I'm off to read the other thread to see if anybody actually condoned the murder or if GCers are just making isht up again.

Actually, it depends on the whistler. And his behavior along with the act of the whistle.

Example: If I walk by and a guy whistles and then says, "You are so beautiful", I'd take that better than if the same man whistled and then tried to grab my body or called me a derogatory name.

What two examples are you referring to? I'm a bit confused.

The Emmett Till case and the case in this thread

http://forums.greekchat.com/gcforums...threadid=68112

which someone is clearly trying to draw a parallel between.

When the whistling is accompanied with physically and/or verbally abusive behavior, yes.

But yes whistling on its own? It most likely wouldn't bother me. Its the actions that go along with whistling that bother me.

So you can understand where the killers were coming from I guess.

Nope, I didn't say that.

Nice try though.

Besides, I'm a woman, and the killers were men, so I can't relate to them, right?
