I was just wondering who else is going to be a Recruitment Counselor for Fall 2005? This will be my 2nd year being a counselor and I can't wait! SLAM

Question

That sounds exciting! I would have loved to do that!!

We don't have those at our school.
Can you indulge me and tell me what you do?
Also, are there an equal number of representatives from each greek group as Recruitment Counselors?

One of my best friends is our recruitment counselor (alpha omega). I can't imagine being disaffiliated from my chapter. I love my letters too much to give them up til recruitment is over. Im greedy LOL. But she lives in Virginia and works at a summer camp all summer so its not like shes really got anything to worry about until school starts.

At Eastern Michigan, we call our recruitment counselors "Gamma Rho Chi's," or Rho Chi's for short. We have to deaffiliate from our chapter about 1 month before formal recruitment begins.
We are responsible for hosting different kick-off events to announce that recruitment is coming and to sign-up PNMs.
During recruitment, each counselor is partnered up with another counselor from a different chapter. We are then assigned a group of PNMs, with the number of them depending on the number of ladies who sign-up for recruitment. Each day we meet with our girls before the parties to let them know what parties they have and when.
We are there to answer any questions the girls have about recruitment, sorority life, and the sororities themselves. We are also available 24/7 for the girls to call us if they are having trouble with anything at all- it doesn't even have to be about recruitment.
When I was a Rho Chi last year, my partner and I made up a survival kit. It contained combs, tissues, mirrors, mints, tampons, deodorant, and anything else we could think of that a PNM may need in between parties. We also provided our girls with folders so they could keep all the info sheets they received in one place and pens so that they could write down any comments they had in between parties.
Overall, Rho Chi's are there for support and guidance. We have to be unbiased in our answers, but we help the girls make decisions by letting them talk out their concerns. It's a lot of fun and a lot of work all in the same time.

To answer the question on representatives:
I think that the number of representatives from each chapter is based on that chapters numbers, with at least 2 girls representing a particular chapter. My chapter has 4 Rho Chi's this year, while others have 2 or 3.

At the end of formal recruitment is Bid Day. This is where all the girls who are receiving bids find out what chapter they are going home to. (If a girl doesn't receive a bid for some reason, one of her Rho Chi's meet her somewhere private to let her know that she did not receive a bid.)
After all the girls open their bids, they get to meet the other new members of their chapter. We then walk to the Lakehouse on EMU's campus so the girls can reveal, one at a time, the chapter they are going home to. The chapters run to hug and greet their new members as they make their announcements.
After the new members make their announcements, the Rho Chi's and members of Panhellenic take their turns "going home." When we disaffiliate, we have to turn in a set of letters as a symbol of our being a part of the Gamma Rho Chi group. When we go home at the end of recruitment, we say our name and then hold up our letters as we say where we are going home to.
