North Shore
Did anyone watch this tonight? Supposedly, it's the "new Melrose Place." (and the O.C. is the new 90210). What did ya'll think?
I DVR'd it and watched it while I ate dinner. I thought it was okay...I'm hooked for at least another episode (so I can form an opinion). Definitely some very preppy surfer boys on there...and that guy that looked like Tom Welling...hello dimples!

I attended a preview of it last night at Queen's Surf for Sunset on the Beach and the entire cast was there.
I liked it so far, and I'm hoping that it does well because we haven't had a successful series filmed here since Magnum P.I. and Hawaii 5-0.
Before y'all start making reservations for the Grand Waimea, remember that it's fictitious. They use some outdoor shots of the Turtle Bay Hilton on the North Shore, but the hotel lobby you see is a set on a soundstage at the Film Studios in Diamond Head.
The cast has grown to love the food at my bar and hopefully they'll become regulars. Jay Johnson (old Philip from Days of our Lives) is my champion cigarette lighter! Brooke Burns is a sweetheart who simply LOVES Hawaii.
There will be two other series filmed here, one called "Hawaii" that will be on NBC and another one called "Lost" that will air on the WB.

I watched the first 10 minutes and it didn't really pull me in. I'm sure Fox will replay it though, so maybe I'll try to watch it again next time.

It was just ok. It reminds me more of Love Boat than Melrose Place. I'll get it another try next week.

Not too bad. Phillip from Days is a hottie. I forgot all about him cause of the new Phillip. My hubby walks by our bedroom last night and is like hey its Phillip from Days. I am like how the hell do you know that? lol. Hes like cause you make me watch that stupid show. Its just funny he noticed that when Phillip hasnt been on there, well that one, for a while lol....
Where in Hawaii do you live? My real father lives in Hawaii. I used to go visit him once a year there when I was on speaking terms with him. Since my wedding last year we arent exactly talking. I will say I miss Hawaii. It was awesome to go there every year. My dad and step mom live on the island of Oahu and they own a shop in Waipahu and they live on the ocean in Waikiki

I wasn't too big of a fan. I'm sure I'll watch it again just to see what happens, but I definitely don't think it's the next OC like they were trying to make it.

I looooove Jay Johnson and I love how he remembers me as the "happy waitress" now. He's a sweetie who likes to light my cigarettes. Haha.
I also have to point out that they not only use shots of Turtle Bay, the bar they use is at the Ko Olina Resort (where I want to have my wedding).
Tracy, don't worry, I'll be making a cameo soon enough. Last night I watched it again and I knew some of the extras in the background. My girl Juliet even had a speaking part, "Mr. Colville, the helicopter's here!" If I can make it so that I'm 3 for 3 on ESPN, getting on NS or the other shows filming here should be a cinch!
ADPiShannan, I live in Salt Lake -- kind of adjacent to Pearl Harbor and Hickam and the Aloha Stadium, about 15 minutes from Waipahu. What shop do they own, if you don't mind me asking? I'm wondering if I've been there before. You know, since Oahu's such a small island and everybody knows each other.

It's gonna have to grow on me but it's ok for now. I did like Brooke Burns better blonde though.

Nope. It was cancelled. Apparently there was supposed to be 2 more episodes before the end of the season, but it got the axe around January. The producers tried to lure more viewers by bringing the bad girl Shannen Doherty into the mix, but it got cancelled anyway.
They're auctioning off props and other miscellaneous stuff from the set next week. Sucks because that set cost millions and millions to build.
The show and the writing sucked, but the cast frequented my bar often, and they were really great people.
Out of HAWAII, North Shore, and Lost (who all started filming in Hawaii at the same time), only Lost is left. The WB's in talks of filming a new pilot here, but that's still TBD. I'm hoping they do...means more extra ops for me!!!

There was a big article about it in our local papers mainly because hundreds of locals were suddenly jobless. I can imagine the notice being a blurb in other national papers, but I don't think people really paid attention to it anyway.
