LA Tech greek life?

Wasn't sure if this belonged here or in rush, but figured I'd put it here.

Short story: I'm going to Louisiana Tech this fall, and I'm wondering what Greek life is like there.

I'm relatively old (23 when I get there), and I'm from Massachusetts. Last time I was in college I was in a local, but our chapter was tiny, I think 16 guys max while I was there, and Greeks were about 600 people on a campus of 25,000. I just want to know what's there before I get there- hit the ground running sort of.

It will start out greek gear, as it loads, - that out from the top of your task bar and greekpages will come up.

don't start out on greek pages! Info is old and out of date. Tom, we've told you that a million times and yet you always plug for it.

Contact their greek life office, view the webpages of the school's greek office and individual chapters. Search through the Rush forum on here for info about LA Tech, i'm sure there are threads about it. While many of them deal with sororities, you could probably get a general feel for the culture of greek life there.

And you may want to make it more clear that you're interested in fraternities before you get a ton of sorority info

I have a friend that joined a fraternity up at Tech. It's not a really big school and has a laid back atmosphere. Contact their greek office and they should be able to give you any information that you need.

I had a friend back in the late 90s that was an SAE there. I also had a friend who was a Phi Mu there as well. I am not sure how competitive their fraternity recruitment is, but they do have fun at LA Tech in good ole Ruston!

Dry Parish. Makes things interesting sometimes...

I have heard great things about LA Tech. Our NPC Area Advisor works there and I call her sometimes to get help. The system is just the right size. Big enough so there is enough to do and small enough to make it feel like home. Good Luck!

My husband was a Pike there. The one thing I can say about the greek system there is that it is very close knit. These guys can go 10 years without speaking to or seeing each other and then pick up exactly where they left off.

Ruston is a dry parrish, but that does not seem to stop them. Also with Monroe nearby, this is not really a problem (must try the drive-thru daquiri shop if it's still there).

To answer your question about age. Age does not really seem to matter for fraternities as it does for sororities, so I don't forsee it as a problem for you.

Age came up this weekend at our House Corp. Meeting. Many times, Soph/Juniors have been outstanding Brothers Of My Chapter.

To give a hint, I started the Local at age 24.

There is life past 23!

Ruston is dry. The entire parish (Lincoln) is not. This is when folks migrate 5 miles west on I-20 and visit good ole Grambling, LA. I did not say Grambling State, but the town, unless you are a nursing major, play on the soccer or golf teams, etc.

I guess the greek life is pretty "laid back".

I lived across the street from Tech. I noticed many houses "rolled" a many a day as I commuted to school.

I dunno if that's "laid back" or not.

I have a friend who's a Phi Mu there. It seems pretty laid back to me.

Ruston and Monroe are about 30 minutes apart.
