"The Talented Tenth"

Dear Brothers:

After being out of print for four years, I am pleased to announce that my book "The Talented Tenth: The Founders and Presidents of Alpha Phi Alpha" will be re-released this summer after four years of being out of print. It is the only book published that presents biographies of our beloved "Jewels" and the Past General Presidents. As we stand on the eve of our Centennial celebration, this is an excellent time to revisit the lives of our beloved "Seven Jewels" and to learn more about them. Not only were they our founders, but they were also husbands, fathers, community activists, businessmen and held memberships in other organizations. Many brothers did not know that Jewel Ogle was married at the time of the founding and became a widow just three years later, raising two daughters alone. Perhaps others did not know know that Jewel Callis's had been married to Alice Moore Dunbar, the ex-wife of poet Paul Lawrence Dunbar while they were both teaching school in Wilmington, Delaware. This information and more is contained within the pages of "The Talented Tenth" along with some great photos. Read the words of the "Jewels" and learn first hand of their thoughts regarding our beloved Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Please look for additional information in the next few weeks on how you can order copies of the book during the limited time that it will be in print. I will only be offering softback copies. I am pleased to announce that I will be donating a percentage of the sale of the book to the fraternity for the Centennial Celebration. I am excited to be able to once again share this book with brothers and to those who are interested in knowing more about our founders. I am especially interested in sharing with brothers initiated within the last four years. I hope that you will consider this book, the gift of choice for new brothers coming into the fraternity. A very special thanks to all brothers who have inquired and urged me to reprint the book. Please share this email with other brothers who might be interested.

Long live the Jewels!

Brother Mason,

I'm glad that you are reprinting this book. I tried to get it before but you returned my check with an apologetic letter stating that the book was out of print. I will definitely be one of the first brothers in line to get this book. Although I have already read it, my line brother got his copy, I want one for my personal collection. To the brothers who have not read this book please do so, it provides such great and interesting information on our beloved Jewels and Past General Presidents.
