What Was Your First "Real" Handbag?

This thread was inspired by kddani's first D&B handbag purchase

What was the first "good" handbag you ever purchased?

I fondly remember mine; it was a little rectangular beige/brown Gucci monongram bag with a zipper on top and a shoulder strap. And a green and red fabric stripe down the middle. I bought it in 11th grade after saving part of my Wendy's paychecks for a couple of months.

It was $120.00, which probably cost more than the rest of my wardrobe combined, but I didn't care 'cause I thought I was THE SHIT when I was carrying that baby

It's a shame I used it to death; it would probably be considered "vintage" today!

My first decent handbag was a Liz Claiborne that I bought in 9th grade.Cost me $80 in the early 80's.I bought it because I got tired of buying cheap purses that fell apart immediately. So my mom suggested that I spend a little money and get a better product, which for that time, it was.I have since moved up from there and now have a tremendous appreciation for Coach.

ETA:Instead of buying my niece an Easter basket this year,I am going to get her a small Vera Bradley and fill it instead. She likes little cute handbags too and I figured I might as well start her early on how to choose a good product.

Oh, it was all about sporting some Liz in the 80s. I had one that was blue with little raised traingles all over it. Of course, it came with a l-o-n-g thin strap (remember those?), not like the chunkier short ones we have today.

Oh girl, I so remember the raised logo for the liz purse in the 80's. I had like 6 different styles by the time I was a senior in high school!! I have since moved on to various doonies (sp?) and coaches but I still smile when I see any style liz bag!!

My first real purse i bought in my Sr yr of high school and it was a Dooney and spent $70-80 on it. My first purse was actually those nylon ones in the early 80s theywere barrel shaped and the other one was nylon clutch with a velcro rip opening

Like KR, my first bag was a Gucci.
Like KR, I knew I was THE SHIT when carrying it!
(I still have the bag!)

I am a handbag ho! Mr. 1228 doesn't complain that much...because he doesn't know how much they cost

However, when we were in Vegas, I told him I was heading to the The Forum shops. As I was heading out the door I heard him say, "Stay AWAY from the Coach store!" Friggin party pooper!

It has been a while since I bought a bag...I think its time

It could be worse. I could be like my sister and be a shoe ho! (my sister is the black Imelda Marcos)

Thank Goodness I love Vera Bradleys because they don't break the bank

My first bag was a Louis Vuitton that my parents got me for Hanukkah when I was 16. It wasn't as popular back then as it is now so I didn't use it all that much when I first got it. I use it frequently now.
I had a few Nine West bags and Fossil bags after that but I didn't get a really nice handbag again until my senior year in college when my parents got me a Burberry for my birthday. Now I have a whole collection of nice handbags. My boyfriend actually just bought me a pink Prada handbag for my birthday which I love, love, love!

I got a Coach bag (small saddle-type) when I was 16. It was part of my mother's campaign to get me to start carrying a purse and to be more feminine. I guess it worked, because now I buy at least two purses each season.

I think my first name purse was a Liz Claiborne that I bought in the 1980s, when I was in college. I rocked Lizes for a few years, before they fell out of fashion.

I got my first LV bag for my 18th birthday, it was the pochette. I remember my mom coming to the store with me knowing that I wanted some pricey purse which she was ok with but when she saw how small it was she flipped! Either way I must have trained her well because for my 21st birtday a few months ago she got me a Speedy 30! Now I'm on a mission for either a Chanel ligne cambon bag or an LV Manhattan bag. Wait list for both

I loved Joske's! We would come to SA from the Valley and Joske's was just so cool to a little hick from the valley! Too bad it's gone.

I had three of those Liz Calibornes in green, blue, and purple. I thought was so cool! In high school, my boyfriend got me a Ralph Lauren green plaid. I loved that purse! I had 2 different styles in that plaid. I also bought my self a red coach "feed bag" style purse. Lately I've just had cute but not expensive purses. Not that I haven't looked, just haven't found one that is just right.
