I won't try to defend this theory very far, but my impression is that there was this kind of "prediction" after just about every earthquake event I can remember -- and with the exception of after-shocks, they haven't come to fruition. Or, it took many years for something of the same magnitude.

Of course there are highly earthquake prone areas, but even in them, the "big" ones are pretty few and far between.

I hope I'm right -- because I certainly have no scientific background to draw from.
