Post What happened to......

Hey all. It's a dreary day out, and work is slow, so I'm going into way back mode this morning. Does anybody remember the show 'Where I Live'? It starred Flex, and I think it was set in Brooklyn. I used to really dig that show. How about 'South Central' with Larenz Tate. That show was pretty good too. I don't know why these shows get cancelled. I used to love 'The Parkers', but it doesn't come on here anymore. One week, Jet lists it as the number one show in Black households, the next week, the local station that carried it replaced it with some dumb sports show. Hmm. I digress. Anyway, tell us what you miss from back in the day.

I really liked that show "Where I live". I had been trying to think of the name of the show everytime I see Flex, Doug E Doug or Shaun Baker(use to be on Living Single, but now on V.I.P. I remember "South Central" and enjoyed that show too. My question is do you remember "Me and the Boys" Steve Harvey was in the show.

I miss DIFF'RENT STROKES with ALL OF MY HEART. I used to have a BIG OLD CRUSH ON GARY COLEMAN when I was 5.

"The world don't move to the beat of just one drum, what might be right for you may not be right for some. A man is born. . . (forget the rest).

Others that I miss:
A DIFFERENT WORLD
FACTS OF LIFE
SILVER SPOONS (used to want to be Ricky Schroeder or at least his friend to ride the train)
GIMME A BREAK
THEA
PARENTHOOD (w/Faizon Love)

I definitely miss "South Central." That was the first real show that didn't end with a "happy ending!" I don't remember "Where I Live," but I do remember "Me and the Boys" with Ray J.

Nubian, I think most brothers and sisters where upset about Different World being cancelled. I think there was an increase in college enrollment that year. As a matter of fact I can almost bet you that DW was very influential in college recruitment...especially HBCUs.

Although I went to a PWI, I was still looking for some of the things that DW featured on our campus. There were a lot of RON JOHNSONs on our campus (read hoeish, 5-7 yr. undergrad students).

I also miss GOOD TIMES, MARTIN, LIVING SINGLE, GOLDEN GIRLS, DESIGNING WOMEN (w/ Delta Burke).

aww man ya'll had to take it back...
I'm with you on Different Strokes (that used to be my after-school special! I didn't miss NOT one episode when it came on)

Other shows that I miss of course you already mentioned, most def--Different WORLD...my favorite actress was Kim but I'm so glad that Whitney and DeWayne Wayne got married that was one of my fav episodes...well you guys are bringing tears to my eyes because there hasn't been any show for the black community that is GOOD (if you know what I mean)

Well I guess I have to settle now for Moesha and the Parkers..

all wait...what about the Cosby Show or Fresh Prince of Bel Air (I think they cancelled those shows because they couldn't take Rich, successful black people--just my .02 worth...

I start school this upcoming Monday, but you better believe I will be taping every episode of A Different World! Even though I love every episode I am waiting for the wedding in particular, I could watch Different World all day.

Talking

K y'all!!

Let me just say the two most memorable DW episodes in the AUC:

1. When the "x con" Freddi was writing to came for a visit, and he was a reporter. You could hear Morehouse scream when Dwayne said "you take that crap to Morehouse!" It was hilarious!

2. We had freshman/sophomore assembly on the season finale of DW where Whitley's about to marry Byron. So this woman is reading her manuscript while we all fidget and grow louder . Folks were trying to sneak out and get their slips signed so they wouldn't miss any of the episode.

It's 7:58, the assembly has gone over by 20 minutes, and we are PISSED! People are muttering, the woman looks up from reading, frowns at us, and goes back to her 100-page manuscript!!

Our dean gets pissed and interrupts the woman. "you all are an ill-behaved group, and if you cannot offer our guest speaker the courtesy and attention she desveres, you must LEAVE!!"

Ladies, we were off like a SHOT!! Running across campus to get to our dorms!! She was hollering into the mike behind us to return- NOT!!

Man, we got there in time for the opening credits!

I cried and laughed all the way through, and when Dwayne burst in and said "I love you, baby, PLEASE!!!" oooh! We screamed the dorm down, danced into the halls, declared our love for Dwayne, the whole nine!!

Thanks for letting me reminisce.

Also, no one else misses the Facts of Life? It's just moi?

Honey I miss the HECK out of FACTS OF LIFE, see earlier post. The only ones we have not seen in FRONT of the camera is Natalie and Blair. ALthough Natalie does the voice of a cartoon character on Fox Family. I want to say Angela Anaconda.

I wish they would do a reunion show, remember George Clooney got his start on that show. REmember Tootie's boyfriend JEFF, he was fi-i-i-i-ne!!!!

Nickelodeon had a Facts of Life marathon on for Labor Day! I only caught about 3 episodes. It was a cute show.
