Ken Caminiti is dead.
Ken Caminiti, the 1996 NL MVP, died yesterday of a heart attack. He was 41. Very sad.

Man this is so sad...As a baseball fan, I always admired him on the field. So young too...I hope that so many people will take this tragedy to heart about the risks of steroids. While I cannot say that steroids caused his death, it certainly didn't help...
Are you listening Barry??? Sammy??? Mark McGuire??? Any number of NFL players???

I can't say I always admired Caminiti's choices (especially after hearing he was using drugs during his MVP season), but he was a major part of Padres baseball, and that ovation they talked about in the story posted was well-deserved.....thanks for the memories, Cammy!

I hadn't heard about this.
I used to be (kind of "got over" my baseball obsession in recent years) a huge Astros fan and loved Caminiti when he played for them.
Wow, they say it comes in threes.

I know, this is very sad. Many San Diegans were celebrating the Chargers' second win when the breaking news about Caminiti came up. It was a very bittersweet evening for everyone when it came to the sports report. He was extremely popular with San Diego baseball fans. Granted, we were really mad and disappointed when we found about his cocaine and steroids abuse. Nonetheless, he was touched when the fans overlooked his shortcomings and clapped for him anyway when he appeared at the Padres' last game at Qualcomm Stadium. I feel bad for his wife and three daughters.

Scary. I didn't realize that Cammy was only 41. I remember that Jim Rome, who can be tough on athletes with problems, wasn't so tough on Cammy because he acknowledged his issues, tried to deal with them, but the demons were too much.

Sad for someone to die at such a young age, but unfortunately I wasn't shocked by this with all the problems he'd been having. Everything he was doing must have put a tremendous strain on his heart.
May he rest in peace.
