Question Cheerleading in college??

I know there's a lot of fellow cheerleaders here on GC, and I was just wondering what some of the best college cheer teams are?? I know there's some that are totally hard core. I used to cheer when I was younger and I miss it. I've been thinking about trying out for my college squad, but they don't seem to have mcuh discipline or perhaps all the peppiness you'd expect from a college team.
Plus, I want to see what other school's teams are like

Our team at Central OK won a lot of NC's for D-II.

I go to a small college in Michigan where I am a cheerleader. We're definitely not one of the best teams out there, but we work hard and I hope someday they will be.

I'm going to refrain from making a big list of the top ten teams or whatever, because I have a feeling it could spark a crazy GC cheerleader debate. I don't want to get into UCA vs. NCA collegiate teams, etc.

However, I think we can all agree that University of Kentucky has what is probably the best cheerleading program ever, and several other Kentucky schools aren't far behind. Any other thoughts?

On the peppiness note: my school didn't even have a team when I started and we had to drum up new coaches and do all the recruiting ourselves. If you really want to get back into cheerleading, maybe you could be the one to re-vamp the program at your school!

PiPhiGirl - Are you at HIllsdale now? My brother was there in the early 90's and they had a squad then. Interesting that it folded between then and now.

Congrats on starting it back up, though!!!

Yep - they hired a new coach in 1999 and it folded for a couple years, but in fall 2001 we were able to get that coach to leave and hired new coaches. And here we are!

A few girls in my sorority are/were UK cheerleaders! They'll be excited that someone notices all of their hardwork!

Definitely the University of Kentucky and Morehead State University (D1).

Other consistently strong squads are Louisiana State University, North Carolina State, Alabama, and UCF just for starters.

The UCF (University of Central Florida) squad rocks! They have consistently placed in the top spots at competitions.
