Widescreen vs. Fullscreen

When you buy a DVD and you are given two choices between widescreen fullscreen, which one would you buy?

I'd definitely get Widescreen, especially if you have a widescreen TV. The aspect ratio would look better, and for regular format, they cut out a portion of each shot. I buy all mine in Widescreen.

Fullscreen-letterbox drives me nuts...especially if you have the subtitles on and they're not in the letterbox like they should be.

Over the next few years, all of the new consumer TV sets will be moving to the 16x9 aspect ratio format (widescreen), so it doesn't make much sense to me to by equipment that won't be "compatable."

All HDTV sets will use 16x9.

Widescreen. Because one day, I plan on being rich enough to buy one.

Widescreen.

Our TV has a 16:9 aspect ratio.... watching fullscreen movies on it is a PITA. (you can adjust it, but it looks all smushed)

Amen to that.

And since almost everything is available both ways, I'd rather have more of the movie to fit within my screen than to make the movie fill up my screen.

I worked at Hollywood Video when DVDs first got big, and you have no idea how many came back complaining of the "two black stripes on the top and bottom of the screen", and you'd be laughing at how pissed they got when I had to break it to them that those we're the only ones available.

Course, I worked in the ghetto, and they still never got that widescreen is the best way to watch them.

They also complained if they got a spanish subtitled VHS...and they'd get mad if we didn't have the regular kind...it's like "DEAL WITH IT"...it's just words, you can block them out if you watch long enough.

Widescreen.

Fullscreen chops off the sides to acheive a 1.33:1 aspect ratio.

Most movies have a 1.85:1, 2.00:1, 2.20, or 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Widescreen TV sets and displays have a 1.78:1 (16x9) aspect ratio.
