Hot Saucing

Would you hot sauce your kids or were you hot sauced? It was used in my family, so I really don't see anything wrong with it. Alot of media moguls are crying child abuse. I am just curious to see how many other people had this method done to them or use it with their own kids.

Sorry, should have explained it. When kids bite, back talk, or say curse words they would get a spoonful of tobasco sauce. Its like giving a kid castor oil for misbehaving.

OK What the heck are you talking about because right now I'm thinking your parents shot hot sauce in your eye when you were bad or something.

I didn't know what it was either, so I googled it and found this article. According to the article, "Hot sauce adds a kick to salsa, barbeque, falafel and hundreds of other foods. But some parents use it in a different recipe, one they think will yield better-behaved children: They put a drop of the fiery liquid on a child's tongue as punishment for lying, biting, hitting or other offenses."

ETA: Isn't Lisa Welchel the actress who played Blair Warner on The Facts of Life?

My mom and my nanny both used to put soap in my mouth when I said something inappropriate or was acting bratty.

And I have no idea wtf hot saucing is but it doesn't sound good.

Well... it doesn't cause any physical harm, but it still seems kinda mean.

I love hot sauce...put it on a lot of stuff and throw it in when I cook a lot of dishes. I eat it on pizza, chicken, soup, baked potatoes, eggs, pastas, sandwiches etc etc etc.

I got soap too. I'd imagine that's a lot less harmful than Tabasco. I know I have problems w/ certain types of hot peppers causing my tongue to swell, which can be scary. I've never heard of anyone having an anaphylactic reaction to some Ivory or Dove.

I wouldn't say it's "abuse" but maybe a bit draconian.

As opposed to neckchopping someone.
