My eye: Do I need a doctor?

The bottom of my eye...like below the eyeball under the lid is really itchy and it looks like there's a bump there now. This just happened and I just took a cab home to take out my lenses.

Has anyone had this shit happen before? I'm thinking of going to the hospital so I can use some of that damn insurance i have to pay for but is that unnecessary?

Is your eyeball red? Is there gunk coming out (sorry, gross, I know). If it's neither of those, doubt it's pinkeye. Could be a sty? I'd call your general practitioner, for sure. I wouldn't take any chances with your vision.

if there's a bump, it may be a stye (sp?). don't try to mess with it. search for info about styes to see if that's what you have. if it is, they say to put a warm compress on it. good luck!

I put a warm compress on it and it seems to have gone down a bit but it's still a little there and itchy.

This isn't the eye. The eye looks fine. It's on the skin. I hate doctors...I really do. How long are you supposed to keep a compress on?

Stye..
My mom gets them all the time. The first time she went to the Dr. and they gave her an ointment that she could use in her eye. It helped it go away pretty fast. All the other times she has just done the compress.

It's probably a stye. I used to get them all the time. I think it was the mascara I was using... switched brands and I don't get them anymore.

So Rudey, I would suggest switching brands of mascara. j/k

If it really bothers you, you can probably get something for it. But it should go away on its own pretty quickly.

don't freak out too badly. they usually go away on their own. do the hot compress a couple of times a day and it should help it go down and be less itchy.
oh and whatever you do, don't itch that eye and then use the same hand to itch the other. you will infect your other eye and most likely get one in the other eye too.
hey if you're going first class on vacation you can use the hot towel they give you for your eye. (sorry, thought i'd try to lighten it up)

I've had them a few times and, unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it except put a warm compressor on it and just give it time to go away. Make sure you don't try to touch it too much because it will end up getting irritated even more. You might want to take out your contact lenses for a few days....I know that it's on the outside of your eye but contact lenses aren't the best thing to be wearing when you're having eye issues.
Try keeping the compressor on for about 15 minutes and off for 15 minutes. Try this for a few hours and see if it gets better. I wouldn't go to the doctor unless it gets worse. Save yourself the insurance deductible and don't go to the ER. If you're worried, schedule an emergency appointment with your opthamologist tomorrow.
I hope it gets better soon so you can enjoy your vacation!

Go to the eye doctor! It is probably a stye, but you might need eye drops or ointment in addition to warm compresses. My sister used to get them all the time. She eventually had surgery to remove a stye that wouldn't go away. Feel better.

Rudey - have you changed brands of saline or gotten a new type of contacts? That might have something to do with it.

no hydrocortizone. if you read the label it will tell you for external use only. you can't put it there just like you couldn't put it in your southern region. it's not internal, but it can get internal.

I've never had one so I don't know if it works or not, but they sell some stuff at the drugstore called Stye. It's in a red and white box and has a little eye with a teardrop on it. Maybe you should try that?

So check this out:

I don't think it's a stye because it's not actually like right on that line. It's below...like fully on the skin. This just randomly happened also at like 6pm and i didn't do anything weird to cause it I don't think (no make up hardy har har). My friend told me about that stye stuff too. But I looked at the packaging and essentially it was a lubricant. I skipped out on that.

I went to a hospital in chicago called advocate masonic medical center. That place was not far away and I thought it would be a nice hospital. Man I went through a medical detector and sat with smelly people for 30 minutes and still the nurse hadn't come speak to me. I was about to lie about my eye burning just to get ahead of everyone but I said forget it, I'm off to bel air.

Anyway, if things don't get better I will wear a pirate outfit on south beach and all the latina ladies can love me because I'm a pirate.

If you're on the North side, my dad is an optometrist up there.
