what to get??

hey everyone... my girlfriend and I will have been going out for a year on July 24th and I am stuck upon what to do for her. Things have been a lil bit difficult the past month - i haven't seen her since graduation and she left for an internship in california. she is also been having some problems back home w/ her mom. anyway i dont think jewelry is a need b/c i have gotten her 2 bracelets and a diamond necklace in the past for bday,xmas,etc....

anway lil more background info. im 23, she is 21 and we have discussed marriage in the past. i love this girl to death and want my visit out to cali to be extremely special for her.

here is what i have thought of so far....
i have bought my ticket out to see her
im baking her a fav. snack of hers
wrote a poem for her and framed it
flowers are being sent

any other suggestions would be great....
thanks...

Dude, you're romantic as heck. It sounds like you should use your instincts here. The only issue I see is that you've set some pretty high expectations for gifts

I finally broke down and bought my girlfriend of 4 years a jewelled tennis bracelet (it wasn't cheap at all though). Up until now, I've stuck with the practical gifts (all of which she uses daily). For our first anniversary, she got a brita pitcher

I have this suspicion, after dating the same person for over 4 years--with a lot of it being long-distance, that you're going to do juuuust fine with what you have. I suspect that if you show up with nothing, she'd still be happy to have you there.

Heeeeeeeey, Big Spender! For our first Christmas together, Mr. KR gave me a meat thermometer.

I am not kidding!

Re: what to get??

Dearest Sammy where is she in Cali?

I would say take her away for a weekend to like a bed and breakfast type deal.

It's been a tradition for me to buy a practical gift. As practical and mundane as I can imagine. I really screwed up this year and bought jewelry though. I understand it's all downhill from there.

I'm with everyone who suggests a weekend away. I think that giving someone great experiences and fond memories is so much more meaningful than any gift, no matter how romantic (or in my opinion, cheesy, because I'm not a romantic at all).

And, oh yeah, Brita pitchers are tight! I have a cute little blue one - it's so refreshing to pour a tall, cold glass of fresh water anytime! Love that thing!

Give her a globe or a map of the world. Tell her that you wish that you could give her the world, but for now this will have to do.

You know what has me always thinking? Whether to bring along a Nalgene bottle or my brita filter bottle. I figure at the office, Nalgene is best because it's spring water. But what about other times? Suggestions?

Go with the Brita. But make sure you let it dry between cleanings, otherwise it gets kinda grody.

Nalgene - all the time. It's kind of like Sauconys... sporty stylish without trying too hard.
