Question bid day

Hey guys! I am new to this board, how cool to be aboe to talk to AxiDs around the country! Anway, I am here in Texas and this year our recruitment theme is "XI Island". I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what to do as a bid day activity? thanks for any help!

Okay, I'll need to know what plans you already have... but here's a thought, I'm sure that one of the alum members has a house with a pool... maybe they would volunteer to let you guys have your bid day party there. One of the TN chapters did this and it was so much fun. You could completely decorate for the theme. If you need help finding an alum with a pool, let me know - I might be able to help.

Doing a group outing at a water park might be fun as well. Each initiated member could pay their own way and maybe even pay a buck more to help pay for your new members (unless you have money budgeted for the event - in that case - you'd be all set.)

Everything I can think of involves water - I wonder why?

Cool

Yeah! i am Zeta Lambda! I have wanted to come down to austin to check out your greek shops. here we only have one place that carries AXID stuff. Anyway, thanks for the ideas! I hadn't thought of the water park idea, we have one close but i dont know how expensive that would be. I don't know a lot of details about what we are doing yet because we have only had one workshop. We can't do that many things because at TWU we only have three official rush days, with a party on each day. It is still a blast though. I had thought about the pool idea and hiring a band to play but since bid day is only for the chapter and no outsiders i'm not sure how that would work out. It would probably be a better mixer/social than bid day activity. Thanks for the ideas!

As for greek shops, I love "Any Occation" right on the main drag. They always have great stuff. Have you looked at alphaxidelta.org lately? In the marketplace they have some really cute choose children t-shirts.

I understand what you are saying about the pool party and wanting to save it for a mixer or something... but, I have to tell you that the one that I went to was a blast. The chapter got a lot of great photos of each of the pledge classes, they had big/little sis "chicken" fights, they even got to throw the MVP, Chapter Advisor, President, and Membership Advisor in the pool, and it wasn't expensive - in fact, most of the food was donated by the alum chapter - and a lot of the alums attended to help grill the burgers! It was a great way to show the new members how much support there is.

I bet you could get pretty good rates at the water park. That time of year when all of the kids are back in school - I bet the waterpark would be begging you to have an event. Depending on the day of the week you may even get some pretty special treatment.

Either way, a cool item for your bid day buckets would be an Alpha Xi Delta beach towel or some other "beachy" or water related item.

I hope this helps... I'll keep thinking of ideas for you. You may also want to post this question in the Recruitment Forum... some members in other organizations may have some ideas as well.

Are you in Zeta Lambda? I'm down here in Austin. Let me give it some thought and I'll get back to you with some ideas.

Talking

I am an Alpha Xi from Southwest Texas. This is my first post, but so far I have read almost all of the topics and I am so excited about finding this site. As for a bid day idea, if ya'll have a lake near by it seriously isn't too expensive to rent a small party boat, being as it will be August if you were to rent it in the afternoon or late morning say around 11, it would probably be even cheaper. Also, one idea is to carpool to New Braunsfuls and go tubing. The weather and the water should be great. That is cheap and if you carpool that would lowere the cost. It may be a long drive, but when my chapter had our retreat 2 hours from San Marcos, it was so much fun for us to pile into our cars, it was like a mini road trip. If you need anymore ideas let me know, I have plenty!

Xi love,
Chatterbox

Southwest in in San Marcos, about 25 minutes South of Austin and 40 minutes North of San Antonio. We were est. in 1965. We have a river that runs straight through campus, it's beautiful. Also if you can't find a place to have a pool party check with local hotels and see if you can rent out their pool area. You could create a Luau theme complete with Bar-B-Que-, lays (sp?), and maybe some of the girls would all be willing to chip in a few extra dollars for a couple of hotel rooms for all of ya'll to stay the night. I know that the Comfort Inn, and the Best Western, and the Howard Johnson will rent out their pool areas. If you need a bid day shirt, we had a hawain style one for the Spring Bid Day. All actives had navy blue shirts with hawain flowers and the new members recieved light blue with yellow flowers. The turned out really cure. If you need the design let me know and I can send you the print. Well let me know if there is anything else that I can help with
