Talking Psi Phi Service

Brothers

I would like to greet all of you in the name of Leadership, Friendship, and Service. I currently serve as the Service Vice President of the Psi Phi Chapter at Tennessee State University. I wanted to inform you all about a few service projects that were hosted by the Psi Phi Chapter.

Absolutely Incredible Kid's Day: The chapter produced 38 letters to Incredible Kid's. Some of the Kid's were children that we were close to (siblings, cousins, etc.) and others were to children in the community. The letters were letting the youth know how incredible they really are.

NSSD: On April 19, we hosted a party at Build-A-Bear in the Opry Mills Mall. We had a great time and was able to make 46 bears for children in the community. 6 bears went to teenage girls in a juvenile delinquent home. 2 of those girls were actually there making their bears with us. The other 40 bears went to the Ronald McDonald house here in Nashville. ("Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville, Tennessee, Inc. provides a "home away from home" for families with seriously ill children receiving inpatient or outpatient treatment in a local Nashville hospital".)

We also hosted a health fair on campus and was featured in the campus newspaper, “The Meter”. The health fair was in conjunction with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Alpha Theta Chapter and sponsored by the Tennessee Organ Donor’s Association. We informed the student body about the importance of organ donation in the African-American community, as well as proved the campus with free pizza, drinks, and prizes. We made provisions for over 600 students to participate.

We currently work with a Cub Scout Troop here in Nashville, Pack 67 at the Small Wonders Day Care. We hold their pack meetings once every week and also provide activities for them to do outside of their meetings. We actively participate in with the Foundry (A Christian based organization that works with the children in the public housing developments in Nashville.) About 2 Saturday’s out of the month, we go the Foundry for Kid’z Club; where we walk out into the housing developments and get the children, take them back to the Foundry and help feed them spiritually and physically. Kid’z Club was one of 3 service projects we had when we hosted the Section 70 leadership conference. We have wonderful pictures back from the conference and pictures with Jack McKenzie with our group of kids! http://www.angelfire.com/tn3/apotsu/ *Site currently being updated*

The Psi Phi Chapter won the Book Drive Award as well as the Best Service Program Award in Region IV and we wanted to let brothers across the country know that we are seriously dedicated to the principles set for us by our founders.

In Leadership, Friendship, and Service
