Dog-Owner Prospective Members??

If you were, or currently are, an undergrad would you extend sorority membership to a dog owner or a person who was about to get a puppy?

Oh, I don't know. That's really iffy, because potty training can take up a lot of time, and I just couldn't have someone wearing my letters if she had dog pee on her floor at home. It would be the talk of campus. Cats maybe, but I don't know about dogs.

When I first read your post I was like "Huh?"

But then I realised you were asking about it in a situation where there was a sorority or fraternity house involved.

As for the question, hypothetically if it were me, "maybe". Depends on the type of dog possibly.

We have had members with pets. I myself have 4 cats but to look at me and/or smell me, you would not know it. Our former President had a dog living in the house & no one had a problem with it.

I would take exception however, with someone who wears their letters covered in dog or cat fur or smell like animal piss. That would just be wrong.

No, decadence, don't you think it will hurt my chances at a competitive rush for a southern school? I mean, maybe at a commuter campus they don't look down on us dog owners, but I'm REALLY worried they won't like me for me, because they can't see past my dog!!!

I'm more than just a dog owner and I don't deserve to be labeled!

ETA: You guys. I'm kidding. I was attempting to parody the marriage and pregnancy threads... Thank you thank you very much. I'll be here all week....

It will hurt your chances at a southern school! Everyone will be talking about you, and I'm sorry, but it's just part of life that you will be labeled as a DOG OWNER from the moment you set foot on campus, no matter how many Lilly Pulitzer dresses you wear and how many Vera Bradley handbags you carry. People will talk and you will NEVER be accepted in a sorority at an SEC school.

lmao way too funny I about spit my soda out when I read this.

Just curious do you know of any sororities who do really allow pets in the houses? I know we sure werent allowed any. I could just imagine the maid cleaning up after that. She probably complains about the messes we make in the living room let alone a pet LMAO.

Go way to break some tension with some of the thread though....

The SAE's at my school got in trouble for having ducklings in their bathtub! That was such a debacle!

We weren't allowed to have any pets in the house. Some out-of-house sisters would pop by once in a while with their dog on a leash, and we'd all coo over him in the foyer, but no resident animals.

There was a sister who lived on the hall who got a puppy. The RA was cool about it at first, but then the puppy learned how to bark. And it pooped all over the place!

Valkyrie- I hope you are being sarcastic- The southern sorority girl in me gets confused easily

No one will care if you have pets. They do take up a lot of time, its not like there will be a competition. I would always take mine to events that were outside and the pets would be physically safe at.

My one sister's puppy RULED the sorority house. He was the only male that was allowed over on "Dawson's Creek Night" We would literally fight over who got to hold and love on him.

ALSO- The Lilly store here in Raleigh sells dog collars in a very lilly like fabric. That would melt even the cold hearted sorority girl that hates dogs.

No way -- I don't think she would even know the meaning of the word. She's never been anything but up front about these types of things

And for the record -- coming from a Southern school myself, I must say that I did in fact have a dog. Now my secret is out, and if anyone from my alma mater reads this, they will surely call HQ and ask for my removal!

Well, I mean, it didn't hurt my chances, but I had to keep it a secret that I had a mutt instead of, you know, a real dog.

I know at least one house at IU had a house dog when I rushed many years ago...they brought him out during the first round of rush.

And if I was an undergrad, I would only extend membership to someone who WAS a dog owner.

I heard about this sorority that circles the facial features of their pledges if they don't look enough like dogs.
