Post A non-greeks perspective on a 5 Year Freeze

much respect...

i know that this will probably get lots of responses possibly because this topic may be one that is semi-controversial.

i am on my journey just as many other aspirants (to their prospective organizations) are. But along my journey i have heard many people talk about the possibility of all BGLO's doing a 5-year Freeze on Intake. There was even a thread about it here on the AKA Forum i believe(though i may be wrong).

I decided not to ressurect(sp?) any other thread because I thought that this was quite seperate from just asking what would sisterfriends to this org and others do if there was a freeze. This thread is more like...here are my reasons why I think a freeze is not only inevitable but might be beneficial to all parties involved. And of course asking the opinions of all greek members and interestees alike.

Here are my top 3 reasons why a 5 Year Freeze may be beneficial...

1) so that some of this madness can stop!

While many greeks like to tout the same message that "no NPC, NIC, NPHC organizations condone hazing in any form" it still is happening.
This is 2001 and many Greek Orgs have taken 2nd and 3rd mortgages on their headquarters just so they can pay the lawsuits. It has to stop. And there must be some kind of agreement to change the current MIP process since it has not halted hazing only increased the distance between old skool/new skool and increased the incidences of death/hospitalization.
i've said in another thread that maybe a combination of old skool/new skool can be adjusted to become the "new" pledging system.

2) so that old heads can get it in their heads that old skool is over.

The way that people pledged traditionally is over. It will never be that way again. And the acceptance of new skool is important. These are the ladies and gentlemen who will be the top "dogs" *so to speak* of the organizations in the next 10-15 or less years. I am quite positive none of you would disrespect those individuals or question how they were "made".

3) so some of these sf's who are so obssessed and obnoxious can get over themselves

*shaking my head* I want mine just as much as the next woman but I am not overly possessive and obssessive about my organization of choice. Yes, they are highly selective. And hell I might not get chosen. But we need to realize that part of being a member means enhancing the organization. And i know more t-shirt wearing-snobby-ignorant-bigoted-ghetto-poseurs than i do people who are on their ish. maybe a freeze will eliminate some of those that just are in it for some letters and colors. why are many of these sf's so cut throat...willing to sell their momma for information and whatever else. Its sickening. and maybe if there was a freeze they will understand that the true start of sisterhood is not when they get on line but it starts in the community, the home, the classroom, the dorm room and the quad/yard.

i know that these opinions might cause some to have their panties/boxers in a bunch. it was not meant to come with any disrespect. but the fact is that there needs to be a change.

for those of you who are curious...no, i didn't get denied. so please don't entertain that thought.

when we look at this system...BGLO's...it is one of the things that is cherished in almost all levels of African-American society. and in my case (as in many others) it was cherished in my home and my friends and relatives homes as a system that inspired pride in those who belonged and those who aspired to belong. While I am not saying that there is no longer pride...the amount of reverence that many aspirants used to have is frankly lost. Many on this board have discussed how aspirants are arrogant(sp?), ignorant, disrespectful...I say...it is indeed a sign of the times.

Tell me what you think.

*sorry this post was soooo long*

Peace
