Backseat driving
Is anyone here a backseat driver or knows someone that is one? These are the usual phrases I say when I'm in the car with my youngest brother or my father.
"Slow down!"
"You should drive 1 car length per 10 miles behind the car in front of you!"
"Look out, there's a 18-wheeler!"
"Slow down"
"Do not do a U-turn at this busy intersection!"
"Get off your cell phone and focus on driving!"
"Slow down!"
"Break! There's a car in front of us!"

When I first got my permit, my dad would take me out driving. I had always seen him go ten miles over the speed limit so I thought it was okay for me to do so as well. So one day we're out and I begin driving 45 in a 35 mph zone and he tells me to slow it down. I said "but you always drive 45 here." and he said "Yeah well dont do what I do, do what I tell you."
I'm a backseat/passenger seat driver when it comes to riding with my mom. She drives nutty and makes you feel like you're riding a damn rollercoaster, nto to mention how often and scarily she hugs the curb. I'm scared of her driving and I no longer ride with her.
As for my car I have a few simple rules:
1) Must wear seat belt.
2) No smoking of anything or drinking alcohol in my car
3) No drugs in my car
4) No complaining about the music (type or volume)
5) NO yelling at the driver while I'm driving. (I dont care if they yell at me out of the car, but not while i'm driving).

I cannot STAND this, my old roommate was the worst.
"Go around him."
"Turn here, it's faster"
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
It drove me nuts. That was the only time we ever argued.

i'm definitely one of the worst backseat drivers ever - I can admit it! My parents had been driving (obviously) for YEARS before i ever got a license and as soon as i got it -"Mom slow down", "the light is gonna turn red!" and the worst is when i start pressing the "imaginary brakes" on the passenger side! i can't STAND when i'm driving and my mother is silently freaking out beside me! even though she's trying to be quiet i still know she's doing it!

I remember when I was around 15 and learning to drive...
My mother was in the front seat with me (as required by law).
I was pulling out onto the street. She cautioned me...
"Careful! Slow down! Red cars don't stop!" (as a red car was coming for us).
Best back seat driver line ever.

I just learned to drive this past March, got my license in May, so I suppose my parents have some grounds to backseat drive a little bit. Still, the imaginary break is reeeeeeally annoying. When my mom starts freaking out about something, like "Erin! Watch where you're going! You almost hit that curb back there!", then it doesn't help me either, it just freaks me out and makes me nervous!

I can't stand when my passengers spaz out in my car. They'll sit there going, "Oh, crap" and "Oh my God...." when I'm not even close to hitting someone. Argh.

HATE that. Apparently I'm a pretty aggressive driver. Do you really think it's going to help when I'm minding my own business, near no cars, and you shout " WHOA " like there's a deer or something? Nothing like jumping 10 feet in the air in the name of 'safety'...
