I'm going to disagree with ya James. I thought much of the movie was realllllllllllly slow. The last little bit was pretty good though. On a random note I HATE how the "Alabama/southern" accent was done. Yes most people have accents but they don't sound like that!

Hubby and I went to it last night and really liked it.
As far as the southern accents go, I think they were "overdone" because that was the style of the movie. It wasn't supposed to be realistic. And, since most of the movie happens 50 years ago, maybe the accents were sronger back then.
ETA: and some actors in the movie, such as Ewan MacGregor and Helena Bonham Carter are not American, so it might be easy to see where an accent might be "overdone."

I want to see it too! I heard it was the type of movie that makes you want to call your dad afterwards...yes/no?
As far as the accents go, I think Ewan's southern accent is way too overdone and it probably does have something to do with being British. His "southern" accent in Down with Love was pretty bad too but you could let it slip because it was such a over the top type of movie anyways. Maybe someone should send him a little note...

Hubby and I saw it and really liked it (he cried more than me, lol.)
As for the accents, some of them were kind of over the top but I got used to it.
About the only drawback..I wasn't sure when it was going to end. I couldn't see my watch so I didn't know if the end was near, lol.
Go to it!

i saw it on friday, and i loved it. as far as i can see it's one of those movies that you either loved or hated.
i cried so much at the end though, it really got to me for some reason. i went with a group of sisters and they must have thought i was insane.
and yes, i called my dad at the end. he also thought i was crazy because i was crying so much.
i swear! i'm not a drama queen! it was just a really touching movie!

I bawled.
Probably b/c I'm secretly terrified of XXXXXX but whatevs.
For those of you who think you want to see it though, it's definitely a movie you have to see in theaters....think special effects, scenes that look like you're dreaming, etc. Very very cool.
All in all, it's one of my new favorite movies.
A big Jules stamp of approval.
ETA: I had to take out something b/c I completely ruined the movie for anyone who hadn't seen it. (!)

I heard the critics pan it too, but I saw it anyway and absolutely fell in love with it. I rarely agree with movie critics anyway. My mom and I both agreed to buy the DVD the second it comes out

I personally thought the movie was great. But that could just be that I was an extra in the movie.
