What does your Chi O Jersey look like?

The thread on wearing letters made me think of all the different types of jerseys available today.

Looking at my Bid Day picture from 1979, almost all of us had red or yellow jerseys. Out of 75 members only 3 had blue jerseys.

My first jersey was white with double letters (red on top, yellow underneath) my chapter letters on the left sleeve & my last name on the back. I later got a red jersey with yellow letters (white underneath) with my nickname & favorite number on the back.

I know today some big/little sisters get the same type of jersey -- that was not necessarily the case in my day.

Well, we never called them"jerseys" - just "letters". That usually meant the stitched kind - one material/pattern on top of another swen onto a t-shirt or sweatshirt.

My very first was given to me by my owl pal on Bid Night. It was a black sweatshirt with big letters in a black with white/red/yellow plaid. They were stitched on w/yellow thread. Truthfully, it was ugly, but I didn't think so then. I wore it all the time! I found out later that some girl's mom had bought it for her as an initiation gift, and she hated it, so she gave it to her first Owl Pal and it went on through the years! That part is kind of fun!

My first after-inititation letters were given to my by my boyfriend. It was a long sleeve red t-shirt with small letters in red on a yellow background. It was pretty, um, bright, but it was sweet of him and I still loved them.

The first ones I bought myself were this dusty rose/dusty blue/cream plaid on a dusty blue background swen onto a cream t-shirt. Hey, for the 90's it was a very hip color combo!

And my last ones were a navy/forest green plaid on navy background, big letters, on a heather grey sweatshirt. I loved that sweatshirt! I wore it all the time. I still have it in my closet and do wear it occasionally on weekends- only when my hair and makeup are done though!

Re: What does your Chi O Jersey look like?

Our jerseys go by our families (I am assuming that is how it used to be?) and is given to us on initiation. My jersey is red with black cuffs and black background letters with white and black check fabric. I think that my family must be a branch off because mid-90s bid day pics don't have my jersey!

I never knew people had blue jerseys! That is interesting. . . If the jerseys back in 1979 were family based then the 2 jerseys that you had are still going strong! They are 2 of the smaller families b/c for some reason they normally don't take twins. Weird how that works out. I just now realized that. Our family and the yelow jersey family are the biggest with 13 each, but our families always tend to take multiples or girls from different pledge classes. How did jerseys work when you were active? By family?

Not at all. My first jersey was "loaned" to me by my Big Sister. Then, we all purchased the kind we liked from the local sporting goods store. I liked the white one best, so that's what I bought. My Big Sister had the more traditional red with yellow letters.

I remember when I was a Junior, one of the Seniors bought a jersey that was medium blue with gold letters -- we all looked at her like she was crazy! LOL Most of us believed in cardinal & straw all the way!

I will also mention that we didn't get many t-shirts in those days either. As pledges we received a t-shirt on Bid Day and then we'd buy one for Spring Weekend. The only other Chi O t-shirt I owned was from the National Convention in 1982. (Don't feel too sorry for me -- now I have quite a collection!)

we always got very creative with our letters. They were always on a sweatshirt but the pattern of the fabric varied by family. My cutest set of letters was a light gray sweatshirt with silver backing and a cloud print letter. Sounds hideous in the description but so cute! Very pajama-y and cozy! We also had normal plain tops (like from Nordie's) embroidered with our letters. Thos were very popular b/c you could wear it to class without being in a sweatshirt! After all it's pretty warm out here most of the year.

Hmm I wonder when it started to become a family thing. . . now, our big sister buys our jersey in the family color and pattern and gives it on initiation. I went broke buying my 2 littles jerseys! But they look so cute in their red and black
