Question Long Distance Pledging

Hello Everyone,

My sorority (non-collegiate) is trying to come up with ways in which we can pledge someone long distance who is looking to start a new chapter. We are having some difficulties. If anyone could offer some ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Please PM me.

Thank you

Are you talking about doing this without any contact? Or are you talking about helping a group of people to start a new chapter?

I have no suggestions for starting a new colony of your organization long-distance. But I am currently conducting a long-distance pledge period for one of our new members. We gave her a bid in the spring, and she'll be initiated right before Recruitment in the fall. I created a website, sort of like a sorority Blackboard, for assignments, etc. She is a great girl, and I am sure she will adjust well, but overall, it's very difficult. I wouldn't recommend it honestly. It is easy to impart knowledge, but I feel like the online & secluded aspect of it makes it harder to foster her incorporation into our chapter and her love for the organization. Websites and emails are a poor substitute for human interaction.

You should do what other organizations do when they colonize another chapter. You get a bunch of girls from your area together & make sure the new chapter has around 10 girls or more. Fly to their area for about a week or two & squish as much as you know about the pledge process into a few weeks. Leave one or two girls in charge & let them continue to educate the other girls. Fly back for initiation.

I agree. It's difficult to start a colony without physically being there. You also need to make sure that once they're a full chapter, you start to look into liability insurance. If they do something over there that gets someone hurt, it could easily come back on you.
