This just shortly after Musharaff agreed to give up control of the military shortly because of Islamic fundamentalists that want the country to stop cracking down on terrorists.
At this point it's ridiculous. The country has become nuclear capable, its scientists are exporting nuclear technology to rogue countries like Iran behind the government's back, the youth are herded into madrassah's and have their heads brainwashed with hateful interpretations of the Koran, the mosques blare hate in their speakers.
There has been a shift by rulers and dictators in the region to harness hate and this is exactly what that leads to. Iran and Iraq failed. Syria and Pakistan will fail unless their rulers take incredibly painful steps to "neutralize" those hateful populations as well - something Syria has previous experience with.
