Recruitment at U of Richmond??

Hey,
What's the scoop on recruitment at U of Richmond???
- Do you "need" references?
- Is is super competitive or more laid back?
- Any advice I should give to a northern girl doing recruitment there?
I have a family friend who's daughter I am close with and who will be a PNM at U of Richmond next year. I want to give her some advice about rush and I want to tailor it a bit to recruitment at her school. Can anybody help me out?
Feel free to PM me.
Thanks

I work with a girl who is going to be a senior at UR and she is a Pi Phi. She rushed when she was a sophomore because she was a transfer and wasn't a legacy to Pi Phi and got a bid. They have deferred recruitment in January, no houses or halls, and quota last year was around 30ish... I'll ask her more on Monday!

One of my friends from high school went to the University of Richmond. She pledged Alpha Chi Omega in January 1998. Unfortunately, we've sort of lost touch, so I can't put you in contact with her. She was a "northern girl" from a little hick town (I can say that since it is my town too ), and she had a great Rush experience. She enjoyed meeting all the chapters, and she successfully got a bid to her favorite house.

I know this information isn't exactly helpful, but when I saw where you were headed, I had to post!

I know a huge percentage of UR students are from the North. I know several people in GLOs there, and none of them were legacies. I'm not too sure if they had recs or not. I'll try to find out.

I know there was a GCer last year who shared on the recruitment forum about her recruitment at UR. She went Pi Beta Phi, I believe. But I can't remember the user's name, though

i am an AXO alum from UR.

yes recruitment is competitive. no, references are not needed (i pledged in 97 and as of then they weren't needed) but won't hurt. there is little difference for a girl going through recruitment from the north as opposed to from the south.

if you'd like any more info, feel free to PM me.

pink and green, and yes, she went Pi Phi. She's been really busy lately with other stuff, but I'll tell her to make her way over here.

Below are the sorority websites at University of Richmond. One of our Boston City Pi Phi Alumnae club members is a graduate. She speaks highly of her time in Pi Phi and at U of Richmond.

I did go through Recruitment at Richmond this past January, and I did go Pi Phi.

To answer your questions:
No, you don't need references. I'm the first person in my family ever to be involved with Greek Life, and I know the same went for a lot of girls who I went through Recruitment with.

I didn't really find it super super competitive. The advantage to UR's rush is that it's deferred. Because Richmond is such a small school, you can easily know people in all six sororities before January even rolls around. And everyone I've ever met is super friendly, so you'll get a nice mix of familiar faces to smile at and new people to say hi to even after you pledge. In fact, I ran into two girls that graduated this past year (who I met during recruitment at one of the sororities I went back to for a few nights) while working at the Gap this summer. They came up to me, and we had a nice little conversation.

Here is the link to my rush thread from January (http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showth...threadid=45214). If you have any questions, feel free to PM me
