Thumbs up Why I love Greekchat!

I was just sitting here thinking about how awesome Greekchat really is. Before Greekchat I didn't know the following things existed:

Multicultural GLOs(like Theta Nu Xi)
Asian GLOs
Latin GLOs
Local GLOs
non-college GLOs(like Beta Sigma Phi)
Alpha Phi Omega(I had never heard of it!)

I've learned so much about Greek life on here. Before here, all I was really exposed to were music GLOs, and NPC, IFC, and NPHC groups.

I also love the resources available here. I love being able to post something and get viewpoints from people of all ages, types, races, different GLOs, everything.

I guess in short, where else can to sit around and chat with ALL Greeks, not just the type you're in, and learn this much?

Thoughts, anyone?

Thumbs up

That is so true...

I had never heard of multicultural GLOs before GC. I have learned so much about Greek Life in other parts of the country besides the South. And, I have learned an even greater appreciation of the Greek System!

Thank you GC founders and members.

Greek Chat helps to foster a spirit of interfraternalism, but what I like best about it is that I don't have to explain why I'm still involved with my college fraternity.

Greekchat has really educated me about the NPHC fraternities and sororities, as well as multicultural organizations. I knew that the NPHCs existed, but I've learned much more what you are all about.

I also learned a lot more about the idea of the Greek community here. We have Greek chapters on our campus, but I think we are far from the "community" that we could be. I think it's helped me get a better idea of what we should be, and as an older sister, I've tried to pass that on to our newer girls. Hopefully it goes somewhere!

Substitute sorority for fraternity and that goes for me as well.

Fraternity is a gender neutral word. Besides, isn't AOP a women's fraternity?

AOPi is a fraternity, and AGD is also a women's fraternity. But I refer to my organization as my SORORITY, not my women's fraternity.

Also, don't forget that some of the NPC sororities aren't women's fraternities: Sigma Kappa, for instance, is Sigma Kappa Sorority.

I've learned quite a bit from Greekchat. For instance, I would never have known much about alumnae initiation, or that it is even an option for someone who isn't an immediate relative (mother or grandmother) of a sorority member.

I also like learning about other groups from all over the country, and how Greek life is at other campuses. For instance, I just assumed sorority rush everywhere was as hypercompetitive as IU's, so the concept of "everyone who goes to prefs is guaranteed a bid" and high percentage of rushee placement is a bit foreign to me.

To sum up, the NPC "sororities" are:
KD, DZ, ADPi, SK, GPhiB and AEPhi, SSS.
(hopefully I didn't forget anyone)

All the rest are "fraternities"...

SDT is also a "sorority" as opposed to a "fraternity."
