what are YOU doing here?
so i was never really planning to pledge a frat, especially not at my school where the greek life is...pathetic. but i ended up doing it anyway, for the asian-interest frat on campus. i'm not asian, i'm white, and of course that's everyone's number one question to me.
anyone else here in the same situation, where you pledged/are active in an organization in which you don't fit their original aim or purpose?

This is so gonna come out wrong.
I really didn't know anyone at SDSU, and I never thought about joining, but an Asian Frat came up to me, so I went through their rush. There were problems from the start, and honestly, they mostly stemmed from the fact that I didn't have very many Asian friends in high school, and my interests were just plain the opposite of theirs (in terms of their spare time activities). So I dropped them, and thought I'd never get back into Greek Life again.
The Spring of my second year, I wound up in Delta Sig one night, and I knew I wanted to pledge there. Everything eventually fell into place. The guys I left are still a great org, they just didn't fit me.

i get it EVERY day. i was always interested in joining a fraternity, but i never knew exactly where i wanted to go. i'm african american, but the only fraternities i had been exposed to were IFC. when i got to college, i attended IFC rush and pretty much got the "what are you doing here?" vibe, so i dropped out. i looked around some more and found my niche in Omega Delta Phi, a Latino-founded fraternity. after i crossed over, i was constantly asked "why did you go odphi? why didn't you go kappa or alpha or something?" i understand all the opportunities that go along with nphc greek orgs, but i felt most comfortable with odphi, and that's all that mattered to me. if only everyone else understood that..

that's pretty much my story too. no one, especially no one in the organization, has ever been unsupportive b/c of that stuff. i just keep a sense of humor about it and make up good answers for people..
'why are you pledging an asian frat?'
-because i like asian girls
-because i think sars is funny
-because my fortune cookie said i should
etc. etc. etc.
it's all good.

Sad Commentary!
The reason you Associated with Your Group is to be with The Type of People that you feel comfortable with as We all do!
Do not let it get you down! Be happy with the Brothers that you are with! Those are the ones that you can lay back on to be with you!
