Going Away Gift

My best friend is graduating mid-semester and will be moving out of state. More than likely I won't get to see her for years down the road since both of us will be attending grad school. I wanted to give her a nice going away/graduation gift but am clueless as what to get. Any suggestions?

Anything would be appreciated!

Erin

What kind of stuff does she like?
Maybe get her a picture frame from Things Remembered and you can engrave it with your names or a quote or Congratulations or an inside joke or whatnot.

thats a good idea. Or maybe burn a CD with all of the favorite songs you two shared together?

Those are all good ideas. Has she mentioned anything she'd like to have? When my roommate moved to Nebraska for pharmacy school, I crocheted her this small afghan that she could put over her lap while she was studying...she'd been asking me to make her a scarf all last winter and I never did, so that's how I got the idea and she absolutely loved it.

My friend is one of those people who are hard to shop for. She doesn't really mention anything that she needs. We're both speech path majors so I was thinking about getting her something along those lines. We always need therapy materials. I was just hoping for something more sentimental.

Thanks to all who posted! I really appreciate it.

You could give her a basket of stuff that is sentimental and fun.

For example, you could give her a picture frame of the two of you - like the others suggested - that is engraved with a special friendship quote. A bottle of champagne or whatever she likes (danzka's my new favorite) to toast her new endeavors, some stationary to write to you, and maybe something that she will need that has to do with your major (like you suggested).

Taking off on the picture idea...what about a small scrapbook with pictures of you together, doing fun things, souvenirs maybe like ticket stubs to concerts you went to together, things like that. Something she could look through when she's feeling lonely in her new place.
You could also get her a phone card, to help her keep connections to people back home.
