roommate complaints

I need a place to rant about stupid things that happen all too frequently in this apartment, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this...

I just washed the biggest, most disgusting pile of dishes I've ever seen in my life. Like, the sink was FULL, and half the counter was covered. Out of that, all that was MINE was a plate, a pasta bowl, a glass, a teacup, 2 spoons, and 2 tupperware containers, all used in the past 24 hours.
The rest of the mess... ugh. Disgusting, and definitely NOT mine.

And why did I wash all this crap that wasn't mine?
We were out of forks, butter knives, sharp knives, pots, and measuring utensils... as well as bowls, since the one in the cabinet was kind of gross.
This evening, I ate my Kraft Dinner out of the frying pan in which I cooked it with a spoon because I really didn't have any other option at that point, other than washing her dishes, which I didn't want to do until I just got thoroughly disgusted after really thinking about what I had to do.

YAY a place to vent!!!!!!!

So my roomate is attatched at the hip to her boyfriend (dont even get me started on their relationship) and he now LIVES with us. It's nice that he does dishes and she cleans the apartment but I hate having two roommates when I only signed on for one. Plus I feel this tension in the apartment and I want it to go away so I'm always being nice and not saying anything when she pisses me off!

I completely understand where you're coming from! My senior year I lived with three other sisters in an apartment, and one of my sisters and I were ALWAYS the ones doing the dishes, even when all of them (or most of them) belonged to the other two. Don't even get me started on the amount of other cleaning the one sister and I also did in our apartment compared to the other two!

And Rachel, I also understand about the having two roommates when you only signed on for one....my freshman year, my roommate and her boyfriend lived in our dorm room (where there's no room between the two studio-style couch-beds to walk) from the beginning of November until the end of the school year in May....yuck! And this was AFTER she had broken up with her long-term boyfriend of three years two weeks into the school year!

ok, and she went out tonight to get completely drunk, and didn't bring her keys.
she just WOKE ME UP pounding on the door, then when I dragged my butt out of bed to answer it, she came in, being all obnoxious and drunk and acting like it was my purpose in life to let her in, complaining that it took me so long.
AAAAAHHHHHH!!!

Sorry about the evil roommates

I had the roommates from hell my freshman year. One was an anal-retentive neat freak who would routinely take over the big table in our suite lounge to do her problem sets, never mind that there were 7 other people in the suite who might have liked to spread out their own papers somewhere The other was a born complainer who whined and whined about how not all her advanced courses had transferred. I could go on all day about those two

Even after I got my single, people borrowed my cookware all the time. My mom had given me a very nice set of pots and pans when I went to college - I still use them - but my suitemates would borrow them all the time and then just throw them in the sink, and guess who had to wash them! I finally told my suitemates that it was fine if they borrowed my stuff as long as they washed it, but if they continued to leave everything for me to wash, I was going to keep my cookware in my room so no one but me could use it. Suddenly, my pots and pans were left clean...

Let me see...

I also had the roomie-whose-boyfriend-thought-he-lived-there-too. The first time he & I were alone in the room, he announced that, "This is going to be my headquarters." I asked him for a third of the rent.

Then there was the roomie who was an artist, and was inspired around 2-3am on school nights. Inspired by oil paints & thinner. I think my nasal cavity is still clogged.

Can't forget the slob roomie who simply could not get up before 11am, yet scheduled all her classes in the morning, expecting me to force her to get up. Napalm could not wake her up; how could I? Her total number of credits for the term? Zero.

That last one also did wonderful things like borrow my new (not yet oiled/waterproofed) boots to wear in the rain, borrowed my undergucci's and put them back in my drawer without washing them!, had a gag t-shirt made for me with "for a good time, call 555-1212" (which ALL of the employees did), and many other things that I've put out of my mind. This was an intense term for me, and aftert midterms, another friend & I decided to take a weekend in the mountains. I asked Roomie if she'd like to join us, and her response was a very sober, "You know, I think I could use the break." I SO wanted to yell, "From what?!?!?!?"

Both of my roomates have been pissing me off lately. And I think its come to the fact that sometimes, I just ignore them and they just ignore me. Really. It works.

First off, one of them made fun of me for joining Phi Sig then expects me to get her into parties that the fraternities around here hold. Except, I'm too embarrassed to bring her because she'll attatch herself to one of the boys (like she always does) and be super slutty....and not realize that I have to deal with those people later, while she doesnt.

THEN last night, they were supposed to stay in CT and I was going to have the room to myself, but both of them come home screaming at the top of their lungs at 4:30AM, and being so friggen loud. Do they not know that I was tryingto sleep?! I mean, yea, I've come back at 4am a few times...But I'm always quiet when I do. They were yelling and laughing and...AHHHH i wanted to kill both of them.

My freshman year of college, my EX (need I say) EX roommate used to have her boyfrend over all the time!! At first it was okay but then it got a lil to out of hand when they would have sex while I was in there. Let me remind you that I lived in a dorm (one room TWO beds.) They would do it all the time-- morning, day or nite (sometimes all three times) while I would be in there trying to sleep, study, watch tv or talk on the phone!! It was sooo gross to hear them. They were both pretty disgusting people and I HAD TO HEAR AND WATCH THEM ALL THE TIME!!
Not exactly what i had in mind!

Do these roommates start out as "friends" or someone you happened to "luck into"?

Either way, I think that everyone should sign a contract AT THE BEGINNING that says something to the effect of " if my sig. other spends more than 1 week every night in this place, then I will be REQUIRED to pay extra in rent". If I fail to do this, the landlord will be told so that legal action can be taken against the person breaking the lease.

If I am paying my agreed-to portion, why should I have to put up with someone who is not? and/or doesn't follow "normal" common courtsey????

Does anyone discuss how to handle problems that may exist BEFORE the lease is signed???

((To OTHERS IN IHEARTMATT'S SITUATION,, why not create a flyer to know your roomie that you wil be opening the apt/dorm. door the next time they are having sex to let the public in to watch

My freshman year roommate probably hated me for always having my boyfriend (at the time) always in the room... esp. since she had liked him in the beginning of the year before we had gotten together. She was a neat freak, and compared to her, I looked like the slob. The thing that bothered me is how early she went to bed... like midnight! And if she went to bed at 2am, she'd make the biggest deal about it the next day telling everyone how late she stayed up. On average, I went to bed at 2:30am, or later... so when she went to bed I'd have to shut off the lights and put on my little desk light and be all quiet. I guess things could have been a lot worse, but it was annoying that she went to bed so early. Also, she didn't go out that much, but like I said, I've heard roommate horror stories, so I think I came out okay.

I'm reviving this, cuz my roommate is driving me NUTS and I need to vent! A few mornings ago it was "Rearrange-the-Apartment" time -- she took all of my stuff from my kitchen cabinet and switched it with hers. Then I'm storing some stuff in my suitcase in the storage room, and she took all that out and put it on shelves. She took my toiletries from the bathroom and put them in the storage closet. I had had a magazine sitting on the kitchen table for a few days, and she threw it away!!! What the hell? She needs to leave my stuff alone!!!
I was downstairs hanging out in the bar (yeah, bar in the dorm, it's Germany), venting about my crazy roommate, and someone overheard me and asked, "Your roommate isn't Sylvia, is she?" This other girl used to room with her, and she told me that Sylvia (my roommate) is apparently known throughout the dorm for being a nutcase! She's lived in 3 different rooms over the past 2 years and couldn't get along with anyone. (Jee, I wonder why...) She did weirder stuff to other roommates.
Gaaaaaahhh!!! I don't want to live with a nutcase!

Hey! Sounds like my roomate second semester freshman year!!! She and her boyfriend had sex, no joke, like 8 or 9 times a day. In the shower, in the room, on the floor of the bathroom...simply put, it was FOUL!

Why is that so bad? Your roomate sounds like how I was. I loved doing it in the shower, bed, living room, kitchen, her Tahoe, apartment's jacuzzi by the swiming pool, my bathroom, my closet when we'd really want it while I was having a party, her room and my old car. Now that I look back on it all, I often wonder if there was something wrong with us. The year I had random roomates it was crazy. We didnt give a phuck because we each had individual leases. There were 4 of us. One guy ended up quitting school and going home because we partied too much and he always heard one of our roomates having sex at 3:00am. The guy that lived next to me, I think I gave him motivation to get a girlfriend. I don't think he realized how much sex you can actually get when you date a girl, he ended up getting a GF and doing the same thing....lol
