IS IT REALLY WORTH IT??
Hi Sorors, Greeks and Sisterfriends!!
I have a question to ask that I have been pondering ever since I joined the wonderful SISTERhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
I've noticed while our organizations do WONDERFUL things in the community, on the same token our organizations seem to cause divide in the Black community overall.
Example: I was the Co-pres of the NPHC chapter at my school during undergrad. It was sooooo hard to get our orgs to work together... just on the srength that they could not get a long because I'm an AKA and you're a Delta,Zeta,SGRho, etc.
It seems that a lot of members get caught up on colors and such and can't see the greater good.
And the sad thing is it isn't just the attitudes of undergrads (although it is probably a bigger problem in undergrad). There had been a Black woman I had been cool with... when she found out we were in different organizations I got the cold shoulder. Does anyone else face this kind of pettiness? Is there a way to combat this thinking? Do you think the absence of our organizations would make it easier for us to get things accomplished for the greater good of our Black community?
DISCLAIMER: This is just my pondering. I am in no way displaeased with my Sorority. All of my experiences with Alpha Kappa Alpha have been positive. It's the overall BGLO community that I'm concerned with.
