Angry I'M FUMING!!!

I'm sitting here watching "Politically Incorrect" with Bill Mahr. There's a black man, the Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson. I don't know if any of you have heard of him, but he's one IGNORANT brother. He's on there talking about how Jesse Jackson is brainwashing Blacks. He's saying while Rev. Jackson is sending his kids to the best schools, he's teaching Black America to depend on the government. He also thinks that Rev. Jackson is trying to get black people riot over the election. But this part is what got me going. He said that blacks should stop whining and looking for handouts. He said that we should start earnign our way. He said that our main problem as blacks is that the majority of us are lazy. To me this hurts more than if someone outside my race was saying it. I know that none of his dubious statements are true, but I think it's only natural for me to feel a little angry at his comments. Also, he's saying these kinda comments on a nationally syndicated program. What is the rest of America thinking of us. This brother needs to be dropped. If you've seen the Spike Lee movie "Drop Zone", you know what I'm talking about.

I have never heard of him. But I will ask you this, have you ever heard of the term, "house negro"-to put it nicely. Let me guess....hummm...he's probably a Republican too.

Nupe4Life. I thought it was just me overreacting. I had never heard of him until the show, and I couldn't believe what he was saying. He was comparing Mr. Jackson's silent protests to that of the rioutous Klan demonstrations! That is so preposterous! You know it's bad when the host, Bill Maher,( whom I think is quite biased at times), vehemently disagrees with you. Then this man couldn't even talk! He couldn't even pronounce nazism but was quick to say it. He is the example of when my friends say they are sometimes ashamed to be black. He reminded me of the saying "Better to be thought a fool than opening your mouth and remove all doubt".

The ignorance of some of people that are on this planet much less in our race blows my mind. I did not see the show but any black man who bashes within our own race, especially a postive force like Jesse, should really look twice at himself. Especially on a national show like Politically Incorrect. That just makes our fight even harder, because the world doesn't just see a black man with a twisted opinion. They see us all. And that saddens, frightens but most of all upsets me.

Well, let's not sleep on the Republicans. Colin and Condeleezza aren't Democrats now are they? I don't remember Clinton and his administration putting blacks in such high level positions...

My dad swears that the first black president is going to be a Republican. At first I chuckled at the idea, but when I think about it makes since considering the racial tension in the democratic party.

But I'm getting off point...

NUPE4LIFE AND OTHERS,

MY HUSBAND, HIS FRIEND, AND MYSELF WERE JUST DISCUSSING THIS TOPIC. APPARENTLY, MR. PETERSON WAS ON THE HANNITY AND COMBS (FOX NETWORK) SHOW TALKING THIS SAME GARBAGE. I AM JUST DISGUSTED. HE NEEDS TO UPLIFT THE BLACK RACE INSTEAD OF DEGRADING US.

ANYWAY, I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT HIS WEBSITE. IT IS WWW.BONDINFO.ORG. CHECK IT OUT. ALSO, OUR FAMILY FRIEND GOT OF HIS WARM BED TO SEND MR. PETERSON A NICE LITTLE EMAIL.

So....if we don't walk lock step with one another, we should be tarred and feathered? While I'm not familar with this person, I am familar with the First Amendment, and I find it appalling that so many blacks think that only applies to speech they agree with and/or the party line they been told to tow. I'm not just talking about this forum, but ministers (including my own), talk show hosts (like Tom Joyner) and community "leaders" (like Jesse Jackson) who brook no opposition to their beliefs. As much as many of SAY we are not a monolith, we ACT as if we are, and get all offended if someone dares to say something different. How sad and uncreative, from a people that descends from ancestors who spoke several hundred languages/practiced many religions just within the same country.

And speaking of house negroes, don't you find it the least bit odd that someone like Jesse Jackson can with one mouth chastise corporations for their racist policies and with another mouth think nothing of soliciting (and collecting) hundreds of thousands of dollars from these same entities, to fund his Wall Street and La Salle Street projects? The NAACP does it as well. I don't think that one can hold a company or government's feet to the fire while accepting its money at the same time. It's hypocritical and it reduces the ability for one to be an agent of change, if real change, and not personal agrandizement and wealth, are the goals.

Discogoddess, I always welcome disenting opinions. That doesn't mean that I have to accept or agree with those views. I'm all for people forming their own views. However when you call my people lazy, that's when I draw the line. George W. Bush is trying to do away with affirmative action, but I've never heard him say that blacks are lazy. He might've said it in private but he's dared to say it in public. Disagree with me, I love to debate but don't go their with remarks about my race.

I freely acknowledge the merit in what you've said. Speaking your mind is "the american way". Peterson has that right; however, if he feels that we as a group have issues, he could have: 1)tried to get on BET and addressed them, 2)submitted an article to Ebony or Jet magazine(s), or (3)selected various conventions to attend and ask to be placed on their agendas. In other words, air our laundry amongst ourselves. He was wrong in many of the things he said, and right about some too.

No man is perfect. No woman is perfect either. As for him, Jesse, and all other celebrities: if you crawl under a microscope, someone's bound to take a look.

Poplife, don't sleep on the Democrats, either. not to say they are perfect (i KNOW better) but don't forget during the Clinton Admin. we saw:

Ron Brown - Secretary of Commerce, leader of the DNC
David Satcher and Jocelyn Elders - Surgeon Generals (Soror Marilyn Gaston - asst. Surgeon General)
Soror Hazel O'Leary - Secretary of Energy (?)
Delta Alexis Hermann - Secretary of (i forgot)
Togo West
Rodney -- Secretary of Transportation
Mike Espy - former Secretary
President Clinton had a Black speechwriter during his term (those of you who read JET may have seen him)

Clinton, whether you like him or not, put Blacks in major positions in his Cabinet (some w/undue controversy). as far as the first Black president being a Republican...at this point, i don't see it. Blacks around the country have a major distrust of the Republican Party(90+% of Black vote went to Gore, the highest for a Democratic candidate in years). several Black Republicans lost in races around the country.
this Bush attempt at outreach/diversity won't change many minds about the Republican Party.
people like this Jesse Lee Peterson won't either.

I don't sleep on anyone. I am not a member of either major party and that's way I like it. I just felt the idea of Republicans being "House Negro's" and the like was presumptuous.

When you think about it, the opinions of blacks in the Democratic Party don't have anything to do with who the Republicans nominate. Yes, most black people voted for Gore in 2000, but I have the notion that if one of the candidates was black then it would factor in a black/white issue along with the donkey/elephant issue.

POPLIFE: Clinton offered Colin Powell the position of Sec of State in 1994 when Warren Christopher retired. Powell turned it down citing exhaustion form his command of the Gulf War. It was really his opposition to Clintons gays in the military policy. Also the Secs of Transportation (a Brother) and Agriculture (another Brother) have the largest discretionary budgets of any cabinet position other than Defense. . Colinn Powell and Condoleeza Rice, while in highly visible and important positions, have less direct impact on the daily lives of American citizens the way Clinton's minority appointments had.

DISCOGODDESS: You have taken NUPE4LIFE's post in a direction in which it was intended. As minorities, it helps to have a unified voice, not a monolithic one. Not everyone agrees with Jesse Jackson (I don't at least 50% of the time), Kwesi Mfume, or our own orgs many times. But when dealing with the public at large, especially the white power structure and entrenched institutions, it behooves us as a race not to attack or belittle the champions of "our collective causes", emphasis on the collective. As an individual, these so called Black leaders, may not speak for us, but many put their lives on the line to advance positions favorable to us. If they can steal an election in Fla, why can't they steal or nullify your vote next? Someone needs to argue this point. I used to think that Al Sharpton was a clown, but no one took Guiliani to task like he did about police brutality. I'll be damned before I accept the word of these negro bootlickers like Armstrong Williams, Larry Elder, Ward Connerly, Shelby Steele, and Clarence Thomas. What did they ever do for any Black person other than themselves? Who funds and supports these people? The enemy, that who. Bootlicking is a cottage industry now. All of these "dissenting Black voices" make thousands of dollars for books and lectures hating on their own people. That is the essence of Uncle Tomism and House Negroism.. I have never heard of any of these people speaking before the NAACP, Urban League, or other Black groups to express concerns or dissent. Just to the white media. Again, the question is why? I offer all of this as a Black, anti-liberal conservative, but no white man or audience will hear me condemn my brethren. That is between us!!
