Food allergies/intolerances

What foods are you allergic to?

How severe?

Do you eat these foods anyway?

Have you been officially diagnosed as having an allergy?

What happens if you eat these foods? You don't have to answer this one if it's too graphic, lol.

We had a kid claim to be allergic to beer. After making fun of him for 3 years he became a real lush. He wasn't really allergic. And then KillarneyRose found 5 dollars.

I'm allergic to molds which means I shouldn't be eating cheese or shrooms. I'm also allergic to chocolate. I don't care so Phunk it.

I'm allergic to fresh pineapple and the acid makes me break out in hives. I can only eat pineapple if it's been processed.

I am allergic to mold too--not too bad though...I still eat shrooms & cheese.

Not a food, but I am really allergic to penicillin.

The last time I got the "scratch test", the only food that I WASN'T allergic to was chocolate! Celery makes my lips look like they suffered a collegen explosion; most other allergies merely make my mouth itchy or slightly swollen. Luckily, I don't seem to have an allergy to shellfish or eggs, so medically, I'm okay.

My fiance has it REALLY bad, though. He basically eats fish, potatoes, chicken, lettuce, chocolate & milk products - that's it. I worry about our future children!

When I was around 8 or so, (well before that) I had major behavioral problems -- later diagnosed to be ADHD.

Before that, my parents had me submitted for CAT scans, normal allergy tests, etc. This food allergy test (done by a bunch of quacks in my opinion) confirmed that I was severely allergic to brewers yeast as well as having allergies to chocolate, wheat and numerous other things.

I was 8, yet couldn't eat normal bread. Had to use that rice bread crap for school lunches -- they didn't have all these alternative breads back then. Eventually, I quit that special diet and nothing changed. Was eventually diagnosed with ADD (which really wasn't widely acknowledged at the time) and later I was subgrouped into the ADHD category.

Since then, of course, I quit taking the drugs and am basically normal although sometimes symptomatic you wouldn't know I had it unless I told you

Honey.

It's not so much an allergy as I don't break out in hives or anything like that. I'm ok if the honey is mixed into a cake or some other food item but I can't have honey straight (I can't have honey on my pancakes). I think it's that honey is too sweet for me. Anytime I've had straight honey, I've gotten really, really sick.

Besides that, I have no food allergy.

Medication allergies are different. Me and Penicillin don't get along.

I'm allergic to Milk: and I always have to tell people that there is a big difference between a milk allergy and lactose intolerance. Now that I've been taking biochemistry for a semester and a half, I can actually tell you a lot more about the reasons why but I doubt anyone is interested.

B/c of the milk allergy I hence have reactions to milk choclate, ice cream, cheese on occassion and other things with large amounts of milk or cream. However usually while on my medication it's not too bad. I usually can't have more than 1-2 servings a day though. So if I have a bowl of cereal in the morning, I might be able to have ice cream after dinner, but the ice cream will cause a bigger reaction than the milk would.

I'm allergic to milk too, but it's not all that severe... I generally try to avoid it as much as possible, but I *LOVE* cheese, so that's really hard.
Betarulz, can you PM me and fill me in on some more of those reasons? People always assume that it means I'm lactose intolerant too, and I'd love some more facts to convince them that there really is a difference...

I'm also really allergic to all citrus fruit. If someone in the same room is peeling one, just the smell of it makes my eyes burn and swell, kind of like most people with onions, but worse. If I eat anything with citrus in it, my reaction ranges from breaking out in some hives to not being to keep anything down for 24 hours straight, depending on the amount I had.
And if I have anything with alcohol in it too, like a screwdriver or something, the combination of the alcohol and the allergy makes me completely sloshed after one drink and reeeeeeeally sick the next day (that wasn't fun to discover...).

As a baby I was a allergic to Milk, but I seem to have grown out of it. I think that this still affects me though because I hate the taste of milk to this day...

Also, we used to think I was allergic to Grape Jelly (mainly the dye), but I may not really be. It may have just been some bad reactions coupled with finding out I was allergic to the "yellow" Triaminic.

I have a weird reaction to wasabi (the green stuff that comes with sushi), dijion mustard (likely related to the wasabi reaction), fresh pineapple and peanuts (mildly...it won't kill me if I eat peanuts and peanut products).

Even though I grew up on a freaking island I love sushi more than I love my right arm, I get hives and I start to hyperventilate if I eat any kind of seafood. ANY SEAFOOD--fish, clams, crab, shrimp, mussels, ANY!

I have to pop a Benadryl or else it gets ugly.

Sometimes when I wear different flowers I need to get an injection because I'm allergic to a lot of exotic flowers.

Some crazy health-nut doctor lady that my parents took me to when I was little told them that I'm allergic to wheat. I think it's bs, though.

I have broken out in hives pretty bad a few times, and had to get on steroids to get make them go away (and I gained a good 10 pounds on the steroids, but thankfully lost it almost immediatly). We never have figured out where they came from. When those of you that have had hives got them, what did you do to make them go away?
