Guys at Convention?

So... this question is for all the ladies that have been to convention before... is it okay for significant others (i.e. husbands, boyfriends...) to be at convention... while not participate but be at the same hotel....

See mine was talking about visiting all the ball parks (I've been to 4, he not so many..yet and we are going to one this weekend) and I told him that I could visit two next summer (white socks and cubs)... and he wants to go, now.

I told him that it was going to be a large, LARGE number of AGDs and that he would have to play by himself... SO can he come also?

What a lot of "Convention Veterans" do is go a few days early or stay a few days after Convention and have their husbands, kids, etc. come then. During Convention, you will be so busy that you really won't get to see them at all!

I don't know if I can really say anything because I don't consider myself a "veteran" because I've only been to one, but I do remember chatting with an ADPi once and she mentioned that during their last convention (their 150th birthday), their HQ encouraged husbands and family and they had special activities and tours for them while the ADPis had their business meetings and special meals. I know some went golfing and sightseeing. Whether or not AGD will have things similar to that, I don't know.

But I do know that it'll be a busy busy time. I remember my wake up call was at 7 just so I could have some breakfast and be at the business meeting by 8, before I knew it, it was time for lunch...a short break, another meeting, then the beautiful dinner. We'd break out at around 10ish, but no one really goes to bed at that time because then we'd be always going around trying to meet more sisters. Then you factor in the times you're shopping at the Rose Garden and/or Burr Patt. Trust me when I say that you can't go in there just once! You get tired and little worn out, but the feeling of being there is so, so awesome.

I know AGD is encouraging chapter reunions at the Centennial, so you might want to take that into consideration too. It'll be such a special time.

Thankfully I got to stay an extra day so I was able to do a little sightseeing and shopping in Atlanta, and I'm glad I did!

omg...if you're going you should definetely spend a few extra days in chicago. it is an amazing place with tons of stuff to see in a beautiful city plus the SHOPPING.

There are some of the largest top tier stores along Michigan Avenue and you will find HUGE shops for all the major brand names. The Gap is 3 stories, there is this massive Tiffany's, huge Express and soo many other stores. I've only been to chicago once so thats all that stands out even though I wish more did.

Normally I wouldn't recommend it since you really won't have time to schmooze at all, but since its Chicago why not? If you are going to spend the $ to get there you might as well stay a little longer and see the sights

Okay, all this talk about Convention wants me to go NOW!

Those with connections to IHQ, could y'all please let us know when we are going to be given a date as to how much the Convention COULD start at? I know Atlanta was about $650 excluding airfare. I heard that Chicago could be $2000k

I realize that it is a year away and the final costs probably haven't been determined yet, but if it over $1000, I definitely have to stop charging on my AGD Mastercard so I can save up for the BIG charge next year.

I know my hubby would probably love to come to Chicago. But I want to spend time with my sisters, lol. Perhaps hubbys and/or s.o.'s could share rooms with other hubbys and/or s.o.'s, lol.

Yeah that is what I figured about time and not really wanting to be with him all that much that week but.... not knowing how much vacation I will have is making it difficult to choice AGD or the beach with him... I don't want to have to choose.

At the Atlanta Convention, they said that if you saved a dollar a day, you could pay for the Centenniel Convention. There are 3 years between the two conventions so I'm budgeting based on $365 x 3 = $1095. Hopefully they're keeping within that budget because if it was over $2000, I don't the chapters could even afford to send their representatives!

Ok well the need to think of the broke people like me!

I know I can't be the only alum out there with a family to feed that wants to go!!!

I'm going to start a "send Meredith to Chicago fund" its to benefit my mental sanity. All proceeds will go to my trip to Chicago to better my Alpha Gam self

I will take check, money order, or cash

I need to know the cost of convention, too. I know at least 3 from my chapter that are planning to go, and we're all poor (I'm going to grad school part-time and paying for it out of pocket, 1 is in grad school full time now, and 1 is going to be starting full-time grad school in fall 2004). I thought there would be more information in the summer Quarterly, and I don't really want to have to wait until the winter Quarterly comes to start planning my budget.

Girls, I think on a previous thread Nann mentioned that we should budget around $1000 for Convention. I'm also pretty sure that the package includes your hotel stay and two meals per day, in addition to access to all the events.

You'll also want extra cash for all the cool Alpha Gam Rose Garden and BPA shops!

I'm going to go look for the Convention thread and see if I can bump it.

i know that in the last quarterly there was an announcement about setting up chapter reunions at convention next summer - have we "officially" set up the GC Alpha Gams reunion yet?
