Our recruitment starts Sept 17.... well we're having a Greek open house on Sept 11 with 3 diff rooms filled with a mixture of Phi Mus, Deephers, and Phi Sigs. Doin that panhellenic thing!

Does anyone know if Phi Mu is rushing at Michigan State? I thought I heard something about them still being an active chapter.

PM_Mama00

The Phi Mu chapter here at Michigan State is no longer active. They haven't been active for like a year and a half now.

Western Michigan's recruitment ended today. They have 9 sororities on campus:
APhi
AXO
AZD
AOPi
DG
DZ
PiPhi
SK
XO

Quota was 21, and I just heard that my girls made quota! Yayy! Quota was 21 back when I was rush chair in 1996, so it's good to see numbers are still the same. I haven't heard about any of the other houses, and probably won't for a few weeks.

As my final post here:
My feelings as having been screwed by the system were just that, my feelings. And as so, they aren't really up for you to decide if they are wrong. this is NOT a system that has been used for years and years, this is the first year testing a completely new system. My feelings were based on talking to girls i know in houses, the 3 rho omegas that i talked to when decided to drop, and other girls who rushed, successfully and not.

And for everyone else, yes i am aware it is a mutual selection so the girls in some/a lot/all the houses just plain old didnt like me.

Unhappy

What a shame you feel this way

I do not pretend to Know anything of the Soroitys rush procedures. But, there may have been reasons beyond the control of the local Chapters.

Before you get upset and in a snit, there may be other ways to check it out!

There are none of us whom know the Actual facts, you and you alone have to make the final decision!

Whether it was good, bad, or ugly, We do not know!

What ever Path You decide to trod down, you know, we wish you The Very Best!

Quota was 28

Of the 13 groups 11 matched quota plus
One was a few off, and one was many off quota.

Alpha Phi matched quota plus!!! Go Beta Beta!

This is totally a thread hijack, but whenever I hear about a school where a ton of chapters make quota plus and others miss by a mile, it makes me REALLY hate guaranteed placement.

what is the point of quota plus? Coz those girls could have also placed elsewhere so that doesn't make sense.

I know alot of schools have the 'free junior' rule and I don't like that coz it makes a junior who could still have 3 good full years left seem like she isn't as important. Granted it is nice to have more frosh & sophs around but you never know if they're going to graduate early or deactivate.

Actually, any girl who was a quota addition would, under guaranteed placement, have gone to a chapter that made quota and would have just been a quota addition somewhere else.

The purpose of quota plus is to reward those who make it through to Pref at the maximum # of houses. Those rushees are guaranteed a bid. So if Susie Rushee prefs at ABC, DE, and FGH, but isn't high enough on any of their bid lists to match there, she still gets a bid to one of their houses.

Quota plus actually isn't great for the pledge class either. If your university explains quota plus to the rushees the way mine does, all the girls will know exactly what being a quota addition means. Then, if quota is 30 but your pledge class is 34, you wonder "okay, 4 of us were basically shoved down ABC's throat. What if I'm one of them?" Sure, the chapter had to want you there if you preffed there, but most girls don't figure that out until they do rush on the other side.

It just doesn't seem like a fair system. IMO, a Panhellenic that allows most chapters to take quota plus when one or more are really struggling is just kicking those chapters when they're down.
