Unhappy Sad day for Nu Eta

Dood, this is such a downer...

Out of the 10 founders:
Alison
Emily
Sara Y.
Jess
Lisa
Sarah B.
Toni
Tiffany
Sarah H.
Ashley

We now have:
Alison
Emily
Sara Y.
Jess
Sarah B.
Toni
Tiffany

And one of them has two unexcused absences.

Oh no! Alison, I'm so sorry that Nu Eta has hit this rough spot. I guess, my advice would be just to be thankful for the remaining sisters that you do have and start fresh next semester. Have a really fantastic Rush party in the fall, and find some new pledges who will truly dedicate themselves to the sisterhood.

Going to the Founders Day dinner really put things in perspective for me. I saw ladies who have been Betas for SIXTY years! I'm sure that their chapters had difficult times over six decades, but these women are still very active sisters with many wonderful memories. Even if Nu Eta isn't working out like you hoped, you are still part of a wonderful International sisterhood, and we are all cheering you on.

Beta Love,
Erica

DON'T GIVE UP!!!

I think a hard thing for us is that we are completely on our own. Theres a chapter in Franklin Pa but I am too busy to get in touch with them. We dont have a City Council, we are in the middle of no where and it sucks. We havent heard from Amber or April in MONTHS... and again... were all busy.

Ditto of what Erica posted.

I also think Fall Rush would be a great time to do a "Strawberry Bash theme" If your fall semester starts in August strawberries should still be in season. What everever your chapter decides, Keep your chin up. Remember Quality not Quanity matters!
Here is a link for HQ's May 2003 monthly letter - towards the bottom are some ideas for chapters w/less than 7 members. http://www.betasigmaphi.org/members/newsandinfo.asp

Beta hugs from CA,
Michelle

I completely understand that it is hard to do this on your own. I had no contact with another chapter (besides on GreekChat) until this Tuesday night at Founders Day. We have a City Council, but it is based about 45 minutes away. Sometimes, I get frustrated when I feel like my chapter sisters don't realize that this sisterhood is far bigger than our little chapter.

In alot of ways starting a new chapter of Beta is like starting a Local except you have pre-written rituals and a gift department to buy cool stuff from. It is definitely hard, but YOU CAN DO IT! Everyone here is ready to support you, and like I've said many times, I am happy to talk to you about Beta any time. I'm new to this too, and I can always use a little push now and then. Just e-mail me: umassbeta@yahoo.com.

Hugs,
Erica

Alison,
I know you must be disappointed. What are your plans?

Just an Idea

Perhaps the remaining sisters can get together for a 1-2 day retreat (camping or even at someone's house) for bonding time. Then after fall recruitment / rush have another 1-2 day retreat w/ the new members. Maybe this will encourage the sister MIA to come back and keep the new pledges bonded, interested and active in Beta. I hope things go well for your chapter during the summer break and fall.

Michelle

Smile Interest survey might help

I know you are busy and you'd like International to do the contacting but we can't always be that proactive unless we know there is a need. I think you all might benefit from a member interest survey to find out what your members new or old really want out of the chapter. We can send you a sample. Then you can concentrate on those areas. Remember, the only thing we require chapters to do is programs, everything else is optional so don't overload yourselves with too much work. Concentrate on getting to know each other, bonding and having fun. When you are having fun it's a natural attractant to others. Drop Amber or April and e-mail or as a new chapter call on their 800 number to get help. That's what they are there for. But remember, the main reason we are all members is for the friendship and fun and that we can do those and make a difference in our communities. Don't stress yourselves, this should be fun and it can be, so relax and concentrate on the friendship and the fun.
