What should Alumni be allowed to go to

How involved do you think Alumni should be? Should the only ones involved be the advisors and facility corp or should more be involved? The alumni relations in my area is horrible and when some alumni do show up to one or two events they have been asked by the advisors to not go to those things. (they were initiation and mom dot night (which the alumn got a grand dot))

So what do you guys think?

O and one more question

How many years out should an alumni be to be an advisor when the advisory board is struggling to get people? Does anyone have assistant advisors?

I've noticed in my four years at the house that alum involvement really depends on the girls living in the house at the time. For a while, we had some who weren't very respectful of the alums, making it a difficult situation. However, our newest members get along with our alums really well, and because of this, our facility corp has really stepped up and done lots for our house. I personally wish that our alums were involved even more. I hope that when I'm an alum (in less than two weeks!) that I will be involved with local chapters, even if it means little things like bringing over cookies during finals week. On the flip side, though, I like that most alums don't get involved with their chapters right away, as it could turn into a power struggle with the girls who lived in the house with them. Over all, alum involvement seems like it could really help houses that need it!

I can't imagine why a chapter would not want their alumni to be involved!! These are the women who made their chapter what it is!!! I know that my chapter would have loved more alumni involvement, but being a small school in the middle of nowhere, most alums didn't live close enough to be active. I would suggest finding an alum group or chapter, or even starting one in your area if you want to stay active. There is a section on the HQ website telling where chapters/clubs are. As for being an advisor, I agree with ThetaGrrl - I would at least wait until the girls I was an active with had gone alum.

My chapter at EKU also struggles with the filling of Advisory Board positions and other forms of support. Most of the alumnae support we seem to get are recent graduates, but seemingly once they've moved out of the area or getting more involved with their jobs, then the support kinda stops. I recently went alumnae with my chapter in May, but i dont graduate till this December. Most of the girls i was active with went alum with me, and the last three pledge classes we had(and i feel guilty about this) i didnt really get to know most of them due to the nature of my classes i had during those times. I do hope to continue to serve my chapter as an advisor if advisors are still needed when i graduate, and by monetary means whenever i can. I think one of the biggest problems my chapter faces is not making dates available to alum's soon enough. Most alum;s have families and busy careers and need plenty of advance notice in order to come to stuff as well as being made known to them areas where we could use help.
