Help Me

Greeks-
I need help. Our chapter's minimum GPA is 2.25 (a C average). I am finding that most of the guys make it above this minimum but barely and those that don't have GPA's around 1.5. We don't have a lot of money and it seems the classes ahead of me are uninterested in what I, the Sigma, has to say and does.

What should I do to crack down? Should I not worry about the other brothers and start like I should on the newbies or is there some program out there that works?

Start cutting kids that don't make grades.. It sucks to be the asshole but you have to come up with consequences and then stick to them. Our alums would kill us with a low GPA. I wouldn't even want to know!

As treasurer I inherited the position and we were probably around $3000 behind in dues collections. I posted a date in the house and a list of names. I said that this list of names had until that date to pay up or I'd file charges to have their membership revoked.. 100% payment.. I was not elected pres. the next year when I ran though

If guys aren't willing to give up A LITTLE of their fun time for class why are they in school and what do they really contribute to your chapter?

We had a similar problem about a year ago. Our scholastic chair just instated a few rules with a ton of fines and we ended up being okay. Basically, anyone with below a 2.0 had to sign in with another sister in the library for a total of 15hrs/week. Anyone with below a 2.4 had to sign in and do 5 hours/week. We also had people estimate what their grades were going to be and the people who were right on, got $25 off their dues. If people didn't show up for library hours then they were fined $2/ per hour missed. We kept up on the fines and made sure the money was collected, so basically it was easier for people to go to the library than pay a fine every week.

I think the fine system that MSSTCY1 mentioned is a good idea, but I would look deeper to find out exactly why the grades of the chapter are slipping. It could be that there is too much partying and not enough studying, but then again...If you are busting your butt and a 'C' is the best you can do I don't think its a matter of them not wanting to do better.
