Aerospace Career

Is anyone here interested in working in the Aerospace field? Since I was in the 6th grade, I've always wanted to be a NASA engineer. Now I'm also looking into working for Lockheed-Martin. Just wondering...

well, not me personally, but an ex of mine works for NASA now... he was a sweetie...the only reason we broke up was that he had to move across the country to Houston to start his job.

Anyhow, what are you studying? He got his BS in Physics, I believe, and his Masters in Aerospace Engineering both from the University of Wisconsin....if you are looking for a good grad program, the UW has a great one.

my father has been in aviation for 40 years. he started learning how to fly when he was 14, got his license when he was 16. went to college and started working for textron when he graduated. textron is an airplane engine co. not worth looking at now cuz it's in a bad situation. the faa has then under investigation. he worked there for 23 years before he was fired. now he works for a propeller co in ohio.
basically just know your stuff. learn as much as you can about aviation and stuff. it's a small industry, but once you're in, you're in. shouldn't be too hard to get in. lockheed martin is a great starting point.

I personally am a physics and astronomy major (not a duel major that i suggest on anyone who wants to have any free time). I personally am a planetary sciences person who has some job experience from Nasa Ames research center (very fun place to work) and SETI and the USGS...But if you are interested in aerospace stuff there is also the field of defense which can use people and there are companies like Raytheon. Or also in the aerospace field there is Boeing.

Right now, I don't have a major. My senior year of high school, I had every intention of going to Auburn to major in Aerospace Engineering. However, Georgia has that lovely thing- HOPE. And I didn't want to go to Tech....so here I am at a school that only has Biological and Ag. Engineering.

I'm not so much a planetary person. I like the machines- the shuttles and such. I want to eventually be a Flight Director, the one who is over an entire mission.

My dad has worked for Lockheed Martin for the past 25 years. It's a good company to make something of yourself in...however, I think it's more of who you know rather than what you know in order to get that first step in the door. Good luck!

Oh the joys of the Aerospace Industry...

About my junior year in HS, i realized what I wanted to be when i grew up. I wanted to work in mission control for NASA. While I'm now just a bit over 6 years after graduation, and only 4-5 hrs from misson control. I've done quite a bit in the AE field. I've worked on jet fighters, tiltrotors, helicopters, cargo ships and satalite parts. I can do complex math but forget the spelling.

Its really rewarding to see the aircraft you've worked on taxi down the run way and take off for the first time.
