Not only is there a question of how they got those Greek letters out of this pin, but you'd think USD colony members or alums would snap this thing up. It seems a shame that this sort of stuff winds up online.

badges

it really is a shame that some of these nonmembers acquire badges and don't know what the heck they're talking about...they should at least do a little research

Right Matt. They don't do reasearch, so it's up to us to sniff them out.

XA DPI
Lambda Pi
DELTA PI LAMBDA
Alfa Kappa (?)
Lamda Delta Pi
Delta Pi

and...last but not least.

Beta Gamma Tau!

All the above seven pins were LCA badges and I bought them all. Average price: $56.41 plus S/H each.

Ebay's a hoot, but I'm a bit discouraged that our guys aren't out there bidding, as was mentioned.

This last says San Diego Colony on the back, and actually it was the least. I bid $86.00 but got it for $33.25 since there was no competition, and tk1507 never wrote back.

Kinda sad.

Now there's one with OPALS coming up and I think lxaz1 has it locked up and I will not bid against a brother. It's a beautiful and unique badge and no one deserves it more than Tom Earp. Good luck Bro!!! Check eBay under Frat Pins.

In closing, I like it when sellers don't know their ass from a hole in the ground and it can be funny. My favorite listing was for an ATO item. The seller, who apparently was a GDI but excelled in electrical engineering , called it an "Alfa Theta Ohm".

Dudes, I roared when I read that one!

You gotta look at them all because you just never know, and I'd like to see all brothers who need them to have them.

ZAX,
Jono

Congratulations to lxaz1 for getting the badge. Nice job sweetly executed. I count the days til I see it and it's new owner, and all the other Lambda Chis at Pitt State.

Tom, you're in the big leagues for sure! (As if we didn't know that already).

ZAX,
Jono

Thumbs up

Just to make sure you know, I did win the Badge!

I thank Brother Jono for helping me in the bidding! It is unique as I and he and a Badge Collector have never seen one like this before!!!!

Brother Jono was concerned that if I got it that I would try to sell it! Not to worry!

While I have won some Badges on ebay, I am offering them to Members of LX Z for what I have in them and nothing more.

Jono has seen all ov the Badges that I have an vice versa!

I will Keep 3!

1. My original Badge, white gold with saphires.

2. Yellow Gold with Rubys and Diamonds from Brother Pickney, Zeta (?). and bought the Guard to match, from International.

3. This one as is different as cannot spell uniqe or what ever!

I will wear these Badges in honor of the Brothers that were before and after me. I will rotate wearing these so Brothers can ask, where did you get that Badge!

But if I can get Badges in the hands of My Brothers at a less price than buying new, I am for it!

Some may be donated to members to be passed along to their Newer Brothers!

I am in a wait and see mode, as many of the older Brothers know, that showing Letters, Colors, and Badges is not in Vouge now! What a shame for us and them!

God Bless, and Happy New Year!

Hi Steve,

I didn't know you were tk1507, otherwise I wouldn't have had to send the message below. I sent it only about 2 hours before the end of auction, so you may not have seen it til the next day anyway.

To member: tk1507
From member: exit-pupil

--------------------

If you're a Lambda Chi, I won't bid on this. Time is short; let me know somehow.

This email was sent by an eBay member via eBay's email forwarding system.
If you reply to the email, your response will go directly to the member and
not through eBay.

----Also, the badge now on eBay was originally horribly listed as "Delta Gamma Sigma Epsilon Frat Sorority Pin" and described as " a vintage rhinestone and pearl Delta Gamma Sorority pin that has been married to a Sigma Epsilon Fraternity pin".

And the picture was upside down.

The seller relisted it as Lambda Chi Sorority, and on the third try finally got it right!

I hope someone who needs a badge will get it at a reasonable price.

Jono

Sorry to crash, but.....

Jono......since you're concerned about you or your brothers being able to get your badges on eBay, can't you understand when those of us from other grops are unhappy with you bidding on ours?? I don't bid on any other than my own and wish that everyone else would show the same consideration. It's nasty to bid the price up to force a member to pay too much to keep it within the group.

Of course I can, who said I couldn't? I'm unhappy when I get outbid too.

I'm a collector and my goal is to eventually have a display representing virtually every GLO (badge, pledge pin, coat of arms, history, etc.) because every one has value and I have respect for them all. I don't know anyone else who is specifically doing this, but my winning one or two badges from each org. is a drop in the bucket.

BTW, if another bidder's eBay ID suggests he/she is a member of that organization (unless it's followed by a (0) and sunglasses), I'll generally refrain from bidding. Some collectors think I'm way too considerate; you think I'm inconsiderate. You can't please everyone. So I'll be a shallow like a character on Seinfeld and carry on blissfully.

What I find interesting is that you only bid on your own badges. Doesn't that mean you're constantly competing against your own brothers?

I don't often write to a seller, because I spend alot of time searching in different ways and like finding something misidentified. This time I did. I don't need any more LCA badges unless they're special in some way, and this one wouldn't have shown up on a search for Lambda Chi Alpha.

Last, how can it be "nasty" to bid on an item on eBay? Do you think that once someone places a bid, everyone else should go home? It's an auction site. Stop worrying about it and have some fun.

Jono

My national organization keeps a running list of members that bid on eBay that is available to all of us. Therefore, even if our user ID isn't "greek" enough, we still know our fellow members.

Yes, I only bid on my own badges. If I see a fellow member bidding, I don't bid against them. I wish I could say the same for all of them. Unfortunately, many times we are sniped at the last moment by one of the pin collectors---how fraternal!

I didn't say it was nasty to bid on eBay, I said it was nasty to drive up the prices deliberately. And no, I'm not a Kappa, although I've seen that happen quite frequently to their pins since that stupid article on pin collecting came out.

I am sure I'll be bidding against you again. One thing you won't have to worry about----I WON'T be e-mailing you any rude comments. I wish that everyone realized that it makes a pin collector more determined to outbid them!

Smile my two cents

I think if someone is a collector and they want something bad enough--that they'll pay the high price to get the item and if that offends you then that's life....we don't always get what we want in life. This is an auction site and people shouldn't take things so personally if they don't win an item that they bid on. You can always be sure that as long as Ebay is around that there will always be another listing!!

an interesting question...

I've always wondered...has anyone ever come across a Theta Kappa Nu badge? I would love to have one of them just to save for posterity.

In ZAX,
Matt
