Bruhs and Fellow GCers,
Normally I try to support black people and their independant business enterprises seeing that economic indepenedence is a key component in our collective struggle for freedom and justice, but I have to say emphatically...
DO NOT SUPPORT THIS MAN'S VENTURES !!!!!!
He is using the D-9 to make a personal profit by selling subpar, unresearched, stereotypical, and shallow information about the history and culture of the D-9. I had the misfortune of recieving one of his unauthorized histories (of Alpha Phi Alpha) from a well meaning, but misguided friend as a birthday gift. I must say that this book is not worth the paper it is printed on. Most of the book is nothing but a listing of the college and alumni chapters. The book claims to have info that is "for your eyes only", but most of the info is shallow and to some degree misleading. It lists unofficial things as official such as a symbol being the "Alpha Ape"

and a discription of a hand sign and a fraternity call (which are not officially recognized by the national headquarters).
He reduces the great history and traditions of Alpha Phi Alpha to mere surface ramblings about hand signs, "symbols", and rhetoric. He places none of the history in context and the information he provides that is correct can be obtained in a simple internet search or a visit to the Alpha Phi Alpha national webpage, which shows he probably did not spend more than ten minutes cutting and pasting information from the website and decided to call this monstrosity a publishable work. Don't waste your time and energy in supporting any of this man's ventures. His motivation is obviously nothing more than greed.
