Most beautiful badge

What is the most beautiful AOII badge that you have ever seen? Was it at HQ, or did you or one of your sisters in your chapter own it?

The most beautiful badge I've ever seen is in the history book, page 224. It's the ruby A, pearl O, ruby II badge. I also love the old regular A, pearl O and ruby tipped II badge. I've only seen that kind a couple of times but it's so pretty.

There's a picture of an old badge brochure on page 49. Look at those prices!

I would have to say one of my favorites is the diamond 'A' badge. I can't remember the sister's name, but it was given to her by her husband for a wedding present. I also like the sapphire and diamond badge - but I like sapphires a lot. Both of these badges are in the museum at IHQ.

Wait, I'm going to change that to I really like ALL the different 'variations' of our badge. I love the simplicity of the badge design and the different jeweled/scrolled/etc badges for their individuality.

Roses!

I've been waiting for you to chime in on this thread, Sarah! Now that you mention it I remember the story of the diamond badge, but couldn't tell you who owned it. My husband's a sweetheart, but he can't understand why I want the alternating ruby and pearl lavalier, let alone why I want a jeweled badge

Do you (or anyone, including our esteemed web guru Shala) know if there are any plans to put a pictoral archive up on the website? I'd love to see pictures of these items, especially the badges! I'm sure there are many other sisters who can't physically get to Brentwood who would love to see some of our history via the website.

Roses,
Christin

LOL! Glad I could ablige (sp?)!

Okay, I checked the database that I just now remembered I had on this computer and found that the diamond "A" badge belonged to Carolyn Piper Dorr (Rho '09). In looking at the list that I have there are some that are ruby 'A', pearl 'O' and chased 'II' (Rho). Another neat one is pearl 'A' 'O' and chased 'II' with ruby corners (Alpha Tau '49 and Omicron '27)). Or how about chased 'A', pearl and diamond 'O', emerald 'II' (Alpha Omicron). Oh yeah, there is also chased 'A' 'II' with Ruby and pearl 'O' (Chi '27 and Zeta '14).

See why I can't just choose one!

Christin-
I have no idea if there are any plans to have pictures of artefacts put online. Shala?

Sarah

Oh...my...heavens...I'd love to see such a badge! I can certainly understand why you can't choose just one!

I love our badge, jeweled or not, chased or not, it's just stunning.

Found It!

I knew that there was a recent article in To Dragma about our badges

It's in the summer 2002 issue, "Maintaining a Legacy" on pages 17-21. The article is also archived online, click on 'To Dragma' from the main page at http://www.alphaomicronpi.org/ to get there.

Thumbs up

Hey kids - not sure about that ... the limited time that Rebecca has to update the site is pretty incredible .

I know that in about a year, they are evoloving to a new Data Managent System that incorporates chat rooms, etc. in even better detail that now - that might be something to add at that time..

I'll chat with Joan about it as well - she might be able to get the ball rolling as International Historian for a 'virtual museum' - good idea!

On-line gallery

I would LOVE to see an on-line gallery of badges. What a lovely idea! Sarah, were the emerald and sapphire badges custom alterations of badges or actually ordered that way?

I believe they were actually special ordered with the emeralds and sapphires. My understanding is that the badges could be ordered with whatever jewels you wanted to pay for up until 1965 or so. After that the choices were limited due to rising costs. I have seen modern customized (after you recieve the badge) badges and they are simply gorgeous, too.

I do love our badge - jeweled or not! I just wish I could wear it to work (can't due to the uniform).

Sarah,

Do you know how the customization process works? Would an owner return her badge to Master's of Design to have jewels added? As you can tell, I'm curious about the entire process.

I'm changing my "Most Beautiful Badge" vote to MJ's gorgeous ruby-tipped badge. I don't think I've seen anything more beautiful in my life! Simply stunning!

Christin

I think that you would just take it to your local jeweler. Don't know the exact process to have the jewels added, but a good jeweler would. I would love at some point in time to add 4 sapphires to the Pi on my badge. . .

Badge of my dreams

I want a diamond badge!

Since my husband did not buy me an engagement ring when we got married all of those years ago, I think at some point I should be able to have a diamond badge. Don't you agree, Christin?

PS-Christin, thanks for the compliments on my badge. I really do love it.

Roses and badges,
AOIIsilver

FYI on diamond badges

..actually, Masters of Design have designed a diamond badge, but these are only available to members serving on Executive Board (as a honour badge)

..and yes, AOIISilver - your badge is lovely as well.....
