Remembrance Day/Veterans' Day Ceremonies

Will anybody be attending any ceremonies this Monday? I'm not sure what my plans are yet, but if I don't get a chance to attend one, I will definately have a silent momemt at 11:11.

Yes,

I'll be presenting a wreath on behalf of Lambda Chi Alpha the the Soldier's Tower here at the University of Toronto. I'm involved in the planning and preperation of the ceremony (arranging to contact other Fraternities and Soroities, selling poppies).

By the way, John McCrae was a brother of the Zeta Psi chapter here.

I went to visit my grandparent's today. I haven't seen them in almost two years. My grandfather fought in WW2. He was stationed in the Phillipines, New Zeland, and Japan. He said his troop was the one that helped Manila, Phillipines get their independance and then he was also stationed in Yokohama, Japan. He showed me a lot of his war pictures (which I've seen before). He also showed me a yearbook of sorts from his hometown which had pictures of people that had served. I guess his troop was also passing through some place in Japan when the peace treaty was signed.

I'm very greatful for those who have served (and always have been). I hope they get a WW2 memorial up sometime in the next 10 years. I think it's very important that we recoginze those who fought in that war!

I won't be attending a ceremony here (not sure if they even have one....haven't heard about it) but I will be having a moment of silence at 11:11.

My sisters will be attending a wreath-laying ceremony in Halifax and laying a wreath from Iota Beta Chi. It's a yearly thing, we normally do it with the brothers from Zeta Psi...who obviously feel strong ties to Rememberance Day, with John McRae having been a Zete.

Sidenote: did y'all hear about how Home Depot in Canada wouldn't allow poppy sales in front of their store?! I thought that was completely absurd and disrespectful to our fallen heroes.

Myself and some of my brothers will be heading down to Canada's national ceremony in downtown Ottawa.

I had the opportunity to talk with many great veterans ala a remembrance ceremony being held at the hotel. Despite a 'geust-only valet parking', there was no way in hell i was gonna tell war veterans to go park their vechicle elsewhere in the pouring rain...

I think this year was the first time that I got more than a little teary-eyed. After the service some international students here at UofT went around to talk to the veterans to find out why Nov.11 is so significant to Canadians. While they were doing this, two of them came up to a myself and a member from another fraternity. They were two girls from Croatia and Serbia respectivelty, and they had recognized the Yugoslavia UN medal. They were in tears as they thanked us for what we and other Canadians had done for them and their families..... the part that tore me up was the girl crying as she mention it was a Canadian medic that had saved her life, even though her lower leg had been blown off by a landmine. The other girl had lost both of her brothers during the Kosovo crisis, both were medics and had studied medicine at UofT before returning because of the wars there......

I hope we never go through this again.... and I hope George Bush gets the message that today is supposed to send (though I seriously doubt it).
