Thumbs down Double Standards & Blacks

I was just sittin here watchn Comic View and saw this guy on there talking about his experience on his airplane trip to the show. Going on and on about some "Arab" that was sitting next to him who "looked like he was about to blow up the plane" and had the nerve to say all Arabs STINK!!!WTF I am SOOO heated right now. Now I'm a black woman and I feel like if on ANY show a comic had the NERVE to get up and talk about all black people are ANYTHING...I would be the first one to start some type of boycott and bring it up to ANY and EVERYBODY'S attention...hopefully most of us feel the same...But as he's going on with this routine of dissin Arabs...I noticed virtually everyone in the audience was laughing...So my question is why is it acceptable when "we" disrespect other cultures...but when we are the victims ...it's such a big no no??? Just my thoughts...I'd like to see what others think about this.

I think it is completely inappropriate for us to disrespect another culture like that because I know if a White, Arab or just other non-Black comic did that we would have Al Sharpton and the NAACP boycotting the station in a minute. Also, we as Black people should empathize with Arabs because we know what it's like to be racially profiled and be the target of verbal and physical attacks. The current trend of us jumping on the bandwagon to dis Arabs in such a malicous way, or any other marginalized group for that matter, is unacceptable. When will they realize that when this Arab scare dies down we will return to the default nonAmericans or people who don't belong.

I remember way back when Def Comedy Jam was first aired on HBO, a lot of white people were upset at the content of some of the comedians' performances. I distinctly remember that one man said "if it was any other group of people talking like that, it would be considered a hate crime." At first, that seemed ridiculous to me, but the more that you think about it, the more it rings true.

Black people, I have found, can be very racist towards others, but will not allow others to behave the same way. Seems to me, that some of us are living in glass houses and throwing boulders. I can't count how many times I have heard some of my friends and relatives use racial slurs, which I will not repeat, towards others. But, those same people will fight, scream, and shout if they even think that they heard someone whisper the N word.

that is so true, when we see it happen, we need to speak to it, so they'll know its not acceptable. excellent point ClassyLady.
