I once heard of a school that had tripe bunk beds. I’d draw the line at that!

Cold sleeping is the best sleeping.

While my school has no houses this actually sounds like a fun arrangement. As someone who keeps the house cold, a place that's always dark and quiet. And cold?! Count me in!

My chapter house had this-as did many of the other sororities on campus at the time. We called them sleeping porches. Ours were located on the 2nd floor-one at the front of the house, the other at the back. It was great to have a place to sleep, dark and quite 24/7 and a separate place to study. Our closets and our desks were located in 3 girl rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Gradually all the FSU sororities did away with sleeping porches.

I've only seen sleeping porches at the ADPi house at WVU. It had the beds in the one, and an almost library-like room next door for studying, etc. I wish I had asked more questions, but it seemed so strange to me! And yes, I'm a cold sleeper myself.

This was actually a "turn off" for me during recruitment. Tri Delta at Michigan had this arrangement, and I remember not liking it during house tours. I think they were the only sorority that had this.

That was the norm at Alabama when I joined in 1963. Was great for catching a nap during the day. On the third floor along with the chapter room.

There's a local woman who also went to Arkansas and she went to prefs at 2 great sororities--one had a cold dorm and one didn't. She chose the latter solely because she didn't want a cold dorm!

I don't think we even knew and we certainly were not allowed upstairs during recruitment. I think all the houses were like that then.

I've only seen one at a sorority house at UofA. The Tucson Panhellenic Alum put on a house tour years ago and got to see one. It was a bit creepy to see on at first. If I remember correctly it was at AOPi or ADPi house.

When I first heard about this, it seemed barbaric, and then it made more and more sense over time...way more sense than one room with two or three students where they are expected to live, study, AND sleep.

Anyone who's been to camp knows that you can get used to sleeping around 6-8 others in no time, and you will start to feel close bonds with your cabin within just a couple of days.
