Why is it...

I have become hooked on these RUSH threads in the RUSH forum and I have started to notice certain things...In Annie's rush thread specifically, DG didn't seem to be a "strong" contender during rush and they only brought in 7 or 8 new members while most of the other panhel groups brought in quote of 24 or so. I know DG is nationally known as an outstanding sisterhood...what makes some groups wildly successful and others not? I know this is all somewhat disjointed, but as a new DG I'm very curious as to why the chapter at Annie's school did so poorly during recruitment...

WhiteDaisy,
I have actually been thinking the same thing. It sure seems like there have been a lot of Rushees who went Chi Omega and Gamma Phi Beta on GC.

At UC-Riverside (where SharkinSkirt went Gamma Phi), I do know that that DG chapter is fairly youngish, it's been around for 15 years or less. Now, I don't know how long the other groups have been around. But I do think that because we were told that they got considerably less than the other groups, it does give me reason for pause.

I do think that every national has its 1 or 2 chapters that compete less formidably with the other NPCs on their campus...maybe this is one of them.

I also believe there are certain chapters for every organization that may not be the strongest in the grand scheme of things. Definitely DG is not alone in this. But one thing to notice from Annie's thread is how she described the house and their "lack of enthusiasm" during recruitment. Maybe that can be a sign to this chapter and to others that there needs to be some revising in the way they do recruitment in order to be a contender with the other chapters on campus? Hopefully some good can come from the negative feedback and low numbers. Our Nationals are very good at targeting these problems as well and sending help if need be.

I hope that we do not have a problem here at NCSU recruiting new members (either in the spring with informal recruitment) and next fall - since it'll be our first time doing formal recruitment). I know we have gotten a warm welcome from most of the Greek Life on campus (save a few sororities that then we are the "rush rejects") - the fraternity men have been especially welcoming (probably because there are so few sororities and so many fraternitites on campus). I just can't imagine that we will have much of a problem catching up with the organizations that have been established here for a while. We have around 95 members right now as a colony and plan on picking a few more up in the spring...in a year or so we will be at the campus average of 111...won't we? I understand that not all chapters can be the best at every campus, I was just curious as to why there is such a HUGE difference in numbers (in Annie's thread)...it's a shame really. Hopefully though, they will realize their shortcomings and improve them...and also make their strengths even stronger.

By the way, tonight is the elections for Pres and the 7 VP's...directors will be elected on Sunday. I am running for the Director of E-Communications. I'm so excited!

Well said, dgtxalum.
I hope that some good does come of this.
Enthusiasm is indeed, extremely important during recruitment!
