Gifts for new chapters?
Generally, when a new chapter of AXD opens or is re-established, our alum chapter sends them a card.
But I will (hopefully) be involved more directly in a couple of colonizations this year. What is something nice to get for the chapter? That is, what do they need most? I know, pink roses are nice, but I'd like to do something more lasting. (And I'm not a zillionaire, so the grand gesture of buying a house is right out!)
I was thinking of the following sorts of things. Please let me know if you have any ideas or if any of these aren't so good:
-donation to the corporation board
-engraved silver items for rush/decoration/etc.
-special badgefor the president
-small items for each member
thanks!

If they have any type of meeting area that they can post letters it is nice to have some large letters be they out of wood or a banner to post. Your other ideas are great though.

How about things they might need like crystal, linens, folding tables, or get a group of alum together to get them something REALLY big and nice, like a computer or something... just a thought.

At my chapter's installation, different chapters and guests presented us with silver serving platers engraved with the date, candle holders, and money to put towards our house. The problem with "gifts" other than money for a colony is that they have nowhere to keep them. Many of our gifts remained with the chapter president . . . we just bought a house, so hopefully we can view them again soon!

I like the idea of special small gifts for each chartering member - if people are still using pin boxes or pin pillows, those would be nice. It helps to start a tradition.

I would recommend:
- special badge for chapter president
- gavel for chapter president
(the above 2 will belong to chapter and be passed to each successor)
- ritual items (will very from glo to glo, but stuff like candleholders, ceremonial robes, table clothes, etc. as well as something to hold them in)
- banner (most orgs have these, but are a bit pricy)
- keepsake item for new (re-)established chapter, such as glassware or the like.

When my chapter was installed, we received a banner. The founders also each received a pin box.
One of my co-founders has an aunt who's an AEPhi, and she gave my chapter a check to be used for things for ritual.

FuzzieAlum....
Headquarters does present some things to the new chapter at installation. I know of one chapter that sent "warm Fuzzies" to the girls in a new chapter---handwritten notes accompanied by little cotton puffs with eyes and feet glued on (in our colors of course).
And money is ALWAYS useful!

A gift to the Corporation Board is always a welcome thing! If you wish, you can request the funds to be used in a particular manner. I also love the idea of donating an honor badge to the chapter. What a wonderful tradition for a new chapter to have right off the bat!
Let us know what you decide to do. Best of luck with the upcoming colonizations

I think a nice gift for the entire chapter is best because the girls will probably go crazy buying themselves little trinkets anyway (at least, I think most new members do). If you buy them all something little it may mean a lot to them for a little while, but if you buy the chapter something it will have such a longer-lasting meaning.
