Letters on door?

Okay, I just moved into my dorm room, and I'd like to put my letters on my door. I don't want them taking up a bunch of space on my door (mainly b/c I have a roomie who's a freshman, but she's totally awesome and we get along great!) and I don't want other freshman in the hall thinking we're both in the sorority. So should I just do small letters and put them by my "name tag" that's hanging on my door? Thxs to anyone that gives me advice/ideas. (Another things....Even though we get along great, I was put on the list for single room last year, so I know I won't be living with her but for only a month or so.)

What almost all gals in a sorority do is put a sticker with their sorority name on the door. Being that both my former roommate and I are in the same sorority, there was no problem "distinguishing" who was in a sorority and who wasn't. Most people though just put the sticker beneath the peep hole of their door. Nobody worried about distiguishing who was in a sorority and who wasn't b/c it was pretty obvious and I guess nobody really cared to.

One of the girls down the hall from me last year was one of three in her room who was in a sorority. They had the sticker w/her letters beneath the peep hole and on the message board that was on their door, underneath her name, she had her letters.

Another popular thing to do is to make something on the computer with your name and clip art to hang on your door. You could incorporate your letters and colors into that.

Last year my roomie was in a different sorority than I, and the year before I lived with a proud GDI (who gave me no end of crap about my affiliation). In both cases, we just sort of split the door down the middle. When your roomie becomes involved around campus, on teams or in ensembles or whatnot, chances are that she'll have some door decs of her own to put up, and if she joins a sorority she'll have even more. Me? I split the door down the middle and PLASTERED my half and the wall on that side with Kappa stuff. Last year we were very Panhellenic: our door was sky & sea with keys & blue irises on the right half and pink & blue with anchors & cream roses on the left. One of my sisters made a really pretty picture of a rose and iris with their stems around each other and put it up in the middle of the door.

So my advice: your door is an extention of you. It should reflect your personality, so by all means, put your letters up. (After all, we want your roomie to go Greek, don't we?)

PS: I just have to add that it was a real learning experience living with a member of a different sorority. It had its moments, anyway.

I had that problem my second semester as a freshman. My roomie at the time was a GDI (that's another story!), but I was pledging AST at the time. What we did was keep a set of letters on the door (small ones) to distinguish who was in a sorority and who wasn't. Hope this helps!!

My freshman year, I roomed with 2 other women, and each of us was in a different sorority. It got a little confusing, esp. since we'd all been rushing the same sororities, and one of my roommates and I had the same first name (!). By the time the door decs were done, each of my roommates had half of the door, and my decs were on the wall next to our door (I'd pledged a week later via COB, so this was fair). I "inherited" a single midway through freshman year (much to my classmates' envy), and one of the first things I did was transfer my door dec to an actual door!

Ideas for your door:
- Make up a small sign with your name and letters
- Get a message board with your letters/symbols and write your name on it - your roommate gets a plain message board
- Is your roommate rushing? If she joins your sorority, decorate the whole door for both of you... make it so that you can easily remove your name when you move out.

I am picturing all of these decked out doors. The doors at my campus were plain jane with message boards and sorority stickers.

Ahhh, guess our campus overall isn't that creative.

Get her to join your sorority and then it won't matter b/c then you will both be in!

Door decorating was an ART on my campus, and a popular one. Sorority and fraternity hallways were nothing but decorations! (although about 99% of the decorations on the guys halls came from girlfriends, sweethearts, etc.

) Even GDI's had a lot of decorations up in general, though.

During New Member Education (pledging) entire doors would disappear under all of the signs of congrats and bestwishes from bigs/littles, friends, etc.

Some of the GLO's, Phi Beta included, actually gave new members letters to put up upon inititiation (your big would go put them up and surprise you). They were cut out of felt usually, in the shape of the GLOs letters, and had the member's name and year on them. I still have mine in my Phi Beta scrapbook

My roommate of 3 years was an independent, and we always made sure to put up lots of decorations for her, too, especially the year we lived together on the Phi Beta hall. But there were never problems with recognizing who was in the GLO, because a lot of the stuff had the name on it.

we definitely decorate our doors around here with our letters, magazine cut outs, and all kinds of stuff... my roomie was my pledge sister so no problems there

small problem though- pledges from the fraternities on campus have to steal letters from other orgs as part of a scavenger hunt, and they will try to steal all you have on yoru doors.. so be careful, in case any other orgs do it

I live in an on-campus apartment, and as far as I saw living there last year not a lot of people decorate their doors! But I always had my letters out there. I just did it up in Word Art with my colors and then printed it out. It' not too big, about the size of an index card, but it just lets people know that an OPhi lives there!

At Butler on bid day when you come back to your dorm room the door is all decorated with your sorority letters, symbols and colors. My roommate and I both went Pi Phi so we were all about angels & arrows but a lot of rooms had two different sorority members in them. I know one room had a Kappa and a Theta in there and around their door there was so many decorations they started taking up down the hallway!

I would recommend cutting out letters from construction paper and putting them on your half of the door to show your pride in your sorority!

hmm, since our dorms are more like apartments rather than standard dorms.... this should be interesting.. I can't decorate the outside door much cause I have 3 GDI roommates...

Here most sororities put out a sorority symbol outside the door that has the letters on it and include the girl's name. Maybe you should write your name on it or put it on the wall in the hall that is on your side of the room. Definately show the letters though!

Why not make them smaller and put them on the window thats what we do at my school
