UNC Sigma Nu?
Anyone heard about the plans for recolonizing there? I imagine it will be a few more years or so. I know the alumni are keeping the house up though.

I've heard nothing.
You can see our expansion plans here:
http://www.sigmanu.com/prospectiveme...rrentcolonies/
Now, if your husband is truly willing to help (and I mean take a leadership role) in trying to get a colony up and running, he could contact our IHQ at (540)463-1869. He'll want to speak with the director of expansion about what he can do.
I know that we've been recolonizing like crazy (as you can probably tell from that list there).
The process depends on a lot of factors. Alum support and the ability of the campus to allow a recolonized group to flourish.
It's a huge amount of work going through the colonization process though. Took my chapter 3 years.

Where was your husband a sigma nu at?
I know the NCSU chapter always needs stuff done or people to attend meetings. Rush on campus has gotten really bad the last couple of semesters.

My fiance and his dad just found out that there are plans to reopen the psi chapter at UNC in two or so years. They had a pipe burst and water damage and had to re do a "wing" of the house. Homeless people and stray doggies had moved in (odd, since its on "frat court"). I believe they are going to rent it out to another chapter for a time being to off set the costs.
There was a list of Chapter alumni that donated money to help with revitalization when it occurs. Appartently, the house is looking great now that its been redone.
Just in case anyone was wondering

That's great! As a former colonist, my heart goes out to the future colony
They'll have a few huge advantages though. Few are lucky to be a part of a recolonization that already includes broad alum support as well as newly rennovated housing. I can sum up how their experience will be in two words: kick ass.

UGA
Sorry to intrude, but does anyone know what is going with the chapter at UGA? My uncle and grandfather were both members of this chapter and I'd love to see it up and running again.

UNC's chapter has rented the Sigma Nu house out to AEPi for the past 2 years. I have not heard plans of them coming back, but I am sure more people have info on that.
It will be hard when they come back even with a large alumni base because of the ultra competitive rush atmosphere at UNC.

No idea, but I'd consider UGA prime territory for expansion. It's relatively close to our IHQ and there's a system there that's ripe for expansion. If your uncle and grandfather really want to see it back, let them know that they need to contact IHQ. A colony is much more likely to be formed at a school if there is a strong, organized alumni support network.

the house caught on fire and the inside is damaged. They still party pretty hard w/ the alum on the home games. I think UGA has something to do with they getting back on campus. I've been up there in the past few years, plus one of their guys transfered to VSU then joined up with us. I'll ask him the real story.........

house
After the house caught on fire it was torn down but my uncle said they still have 45 years left on their lease on the land. FYI: Michael Adams (UGA's president) hates greeks even though he was one.

I just wanted to let you know, that my husband got a letter from your HQ this week, saying that they will be recolonizing the chapter at UNC, and asking for help from area alumni!

UNC Sigma Nu
Hey y’all,
I was just Google-ing UNC Sigma Nu and this site came up. I wanted to let yall know that UNC’s chapter of Sigma Nu is now back as of January 2006. Our first candidate class is 23 members strong with men from all areas of campus- top in academics, athletics, and campus organizations. We hope to double our numbers in the coming rush season (fall 2006).
We are aiming to be a Rock Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity which entails being in the top three of campus fraternities in the areas just mentioned.
Our brothers will be moving back into the house (109 Fraternity Court) in summer/fall 2007.
We will hopefully be having an amazing "Welcome Back" event/reception when we move back in and welcome all of Sigma Nu alumni in the RTP to send an email to SigmaNu@unc.edu with their contact info.

Have you rechartered already? If so, that's a hell of a job!
What was your colonization like? Could you go into some detail? I know it's changed since we were colonized 7 years ago (they basically recruited a few guys, handed us some books, sample charters and checked up on us every 6 months or so).
Tell us anything you can -- and congratulations.

We are currently a Sigma Nu colony and expect to have the charter within a year.
The colonization process has been improved significantly- we are actually one of their "experimental" colonies to which they send a consultant
(a recent sigma nu grad working for HQ) to live on our campus for a year, recruit, assist in establishing the foundations, and help guide us through the first steps of the colonization process. They hope to use this method from now on as recent colonies that haven’t used it have either died out or taken too long to reach chapter status.
One of the things that will be of great benefit is our current alumni base- its very supportive and they have been really involved.

We are actually really excited about rush- over 3/4 of the men who go out are never signed on with a fraternity- thats over 300 students that didnt find what they were looking for in fraternity life. Plus UNC has over 16000 undergrads (45% male). We hope to tap in to this- we want to provide a new greek life experience- one where you can still enjoy the usuall fraternity social events and yet gain lots of leadership experience, build a resume, and become a leading organization in campus life through social events, community service, and other campus organizations... taking fraternity back to its roots and keeping the fun aspects as well
(sorority cocktails, concerts, etc.) It will take years to become the best, but we are already hard at work.
