Ultimate Albums

So VH1 has this show called ultimate albums, basically its the album that has a profound influence on your life, or one of those albums that has just been prevelent in your life for as long as you can remember..not necessarily your current favorite nsync album, but those albums you can still see yourself listening to/owning 20 years from now..so my friend and I were talking last night about our top five 'ultimate albums' mine are listed below along w/the reasons i consider them to be ultimate..so, what are yours?

1. The Beatles - Rubber Soul
I really did grow up with this, I can remember listening to it with my mom when I was about 5..we had the album on record, tape and now I own it on CD..

2. The Who - Tommy.
Pretty much same reason as for Rubber Soul, we have it on record, tape, CD and I also have the broadway cast recording. I also saw the broadway show 3 times, including closing night.

3. Paula Abdul- Forever Your Girl
I loved Paula Abdul growing up, she was definately the first artist that was my transition between what my mother would give me to listen to me developing my own music tastes. She was also my first concert

4. Janis Joplin - Pearl
This was my transition album from what was always played on the radio and opened my eyes to the world and counter culture of the late 1960s & early 1970s. It really paved the way for my love of the dead and other bands

5. Barenaked Ladies - Gordon
First album of their's I ever heard and immediately fell in love with them, this was back in 1994..and well, i think by now we all know my obsession w/them

Pearl Jam- Ten
I love this band. I think this is their best album. I never get tired of listening to the album.

I can't think of any others at the moment. I'll get back to this thread later.

Miles Davis -- Kind of Blue.

John Coltrane -- My Favorite Things.

Dave Brubeck -- Time Out.

Just a sampling of ultimate mainstream jazz albums.

I'm going to have to agree with this one...I think Ten is an absolute masterpiece. There is not a bad song on there. My original copy of Ten got so beat up from listening to it all the time and carrying it around everywhere that I had to get a new one.

My others are:
Barenaked Ladies: Rock Spectacle. This is their live album, and I've seen them in concert 5 times (and I plan to see them everytime they're in town!), so if I have to choose one BNL album to be my ultimate, this would be it. It's about as close as you can get to the live BNL experience without actually being there, and it has (most of) my favorite songs.

Alanis Morrisette: Jagged Little Pill and Green Day: Dookie. These were the albums that I always blared when I couldn't stand my parents anymore when I was a teenager. Now I crank them up in my car on my way home at night when I can't stand my job anymore.

Madonna: Like A Virgin. Nothing compares to 80's Madonna. When I was little, I wanted to be her. This was also the first tape I ever owned.

Billy Joel: Innocent Man. I grew up with this album, and it's still my favorite of his.

James Taylor - Greatest Hits: So many memories from my freshman year of college go along with this album. I'll never forget the night that I had it on, and Josh got up and had me dance with him to "How Sweet it Is (to be loved by you)." Its now officially our song.

Cowboy Mouth - Are You With Me?: Lots of good and angsty music for a rough time in high school.

Can't think of any others ATM...
