Marrige... When did you know?
I was just wondering when all you married/engaged folks out there knew it was right. How did you know that your partner was "the one." How long were you together before you were engaged/knew they were the right person?

On one level, I knew my husband was "the right one" right away. He and I had a mutual friend who picks her friends very carefully - that was a good character reference.
I think I realized he was "The One" within the first few weeks that we were dating. We just had so much in common (he called me a female version of himself!) that we both felt it was just meant to be. We didn't want to rush into anything, though - we'd both been burned before.
When he asked me to marry him, it wasn't a total surprise. We had been dating for almost 10 months at the time. We then proceeded to have a 2-1/2 year long engagement, but that's another story

I knew at the end of our second date that he was IT for me. We were returning to the city from a day in Montauk and as we crossed over the 59th Street bridge, he reached over and took my hand and I MELTED!
We got engaged a month later, married three months after that and have been happily married (usually! lol) for almost 11 years

I'm picky about who I date. Consequently, I only dated one girl in high school. Before I asked her out, I had a hunch that she was the one. After a few weeks, I knew for sure.
We have been dating for almost 6.5 years now. We're getting married in summer 2003.
(For the curious, that's a 7.5 year dating period ).

Interesting scenario... I guess that would be closer to the norm, right?

LOL. Well to start off with I'd like to first say that I met my bf online. When we first met I didn't hate him, but I definitely thought to myself "Oh my God what did I get myself into?" At first he appeared like a dork, but that soon went away (like after 10 minutes LOL)! By the end of the date I knew he was the one, and we plan to get married in two years. On the other hand, he swears he "knew" when he first laid eyes on me.

H'mmm, I'm not married YET, but I knew from our first date that we had something special going between us. To me it was a combination of my heart going pitter-patter and being ultra-comfortable with him.

Me and my husband were best friends and drinking buddies before we ever started dating.
I was dating a guy that lived 5 hours away so I never saw him...eventually I broke the relationship off with him because after a year and a half because it was so hard for us to find time for each other.
My hubby then asked me out on a date...the funny thing was we used to talk about everything and he remembered from someplace that I wanted to go to Chuck E. Cheese. The guy that I dated in high school (for 5 1/2 years) would never take me there because he hated it...so guess where we went for our first date? He thought it was cool because you could drink beer, eat pizza, and play games. It was a lot of fun.
That was in September, he lavaliered me in November, proposed to me in December, and we were married in June. Next month will be our 2 year anniversary.
I would have to say that it was on our first date...but we had been really good friends for some time prior to this.

My Best friend from high school has some wierd notion that now is the time for him. He's getting married in less than two weeks to a girl he began dating last summer. WTF?!?
I think there must be a kid on the way...i hope i'm VERY wrong, but I can't imagine anything otherwise.
