I was wondering

Ok ladies, I'm hoping you can help me out here with a question I have. When we graduate nursing school, we have a pinning ceremony where we get our nursing pins. We write out a list of people we want to thank, and what we want to say to them, and it's read out loud while we're getting pinned. Here's my question: I met a girl in school who has become like a sister to me: we've been through so much, she's always encouraged and supported me, we've laughed and cried together, and now I cannot imagine my life without her friendship. I want to thank her during our pinning ceremony, and I would like to say to her, "I got along without you before I knew you, but I sure couldn't get along without you now". She isn't a Chi Omega, but I was wondering if I could use the phrase anyway, or are there rules as to when it can be used (people and situations)? Any help will be appreciated-thanks ya'll!

I'm not a Chi Omega

but I know Phi Mu uses that same phrase in one of our songs along with a lout of other sororities. In fact, a lot of the songs and chants sororities use are used at summer camps and things of that nature(different words ofcourse). I'm sure it would be fine to use it for your Nurse Pinning. Congrats!

I think it would be fine to use that phrase. Its not part of ritual. We sing it at my chapter during prefs, so its nothing secret. I think your friend would be touched by those kind words!!! Congrats!!!!

Well, the tune y'all use for that is from an old Perry Como song and I believe that the words are pretty much from it so you wouldn't be using exclusive XO property or anything!

XO_Princess,

We use that song at KKG, too! (At least 2 of the chapters I've been involved with have used it!)

Carnation is right; it's from an old Perry Como song, and it seems like every chapter has a slightly different version of it.

Here's how I've always heard it sung at KKG (by the way, at Indiana, ChiO, KD, DZ, and KKG all did this song during Rush at one time or another):

Got along without you
Before I met you
Couldn't get along without you now.

Got along without you
Before I met you
Couldn't get along without you now.

Got rushed by ev'ry sorority
But KKG appealed to me

Got along without you
Before I met you
Couldn't get along without you now.

I kind of like that other sororities use this song...kind of like a Panhellenic song, if you think about it!!!
